JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

about CUC in acros......

about CUC in acros......

Hi guys, this is great, I was just checking any updates in this forum, and you guys brought up a question I posted in the SPS forum, here is the question, please let me know any inputs:

I wish I had a nice camera to show you....

I have some acros that are growing, as you know the tips get white while they are growing, my issue is that on the white tips I can see that some of them are getting brownish color, what do you think it could be....I did a phosphate test and it came out to zero, the light is about 6 months or so old, it is radium brand, I heard they last up to 10 months, the temp is staying between 79 to 82....all my other test are perfect, ca 480, magn 1400, dKH 9.....nothing for nitrates either..... I even saw some of the clean up crabs climbing on them......any ideas??? I almost want to frag them right away in case they are dying...

Somebody said that ph will brown up my tips and kill the corals?....could that be possible and the crabs are going up there because they are dead or dying?

I got my AP24 Skimmer, and I am a bit confused, it does not fit, in the center I would have to cut the trim of the tank, and the right chamber like the instructions I would have to remove one of the chamber panels.

What did those that have this skimmer do?

New JBJ owner

New JBJ owner

I have just become an owner of the JBJ 28 gal, but I went with the Quad instead of the HQI. I had to move fast due to my old 20g tank beginning to leak at the bottom seam. I am currently in the set up stage, with my reef in a rubbermaid for now. I will be setting up the cube over the weekend.

This thread is fantastic, so much information. I already have my Aqua C Remora modded and ready for the tank.

Loving it.

Welcome to ReefCentral ReeferJW. I am just in the process of starting my 28G with the HQI setup. There is lots of info on this thread. but unless you have loads of time, most of the info is lost within the pages.

It would be nice for us to exchange info etc as we are both in the setting up stage. If you need any help or advice just post here or PM me and I will help out if I can.

You made a good decision by going with the Aqua C. The stock skimmer is in the way of the hood and I found this very very impractical. The skimmer is so small and light compared to the collection cup that the whole thing moves when the cup is moved! Let me know how it performs. I may order one from the USA (I live in the UK). If you can, please post a photo of the mod and how you got it setup on the tank.

Post some tank shots of your old tank as well as the new cube once setup.

hi guys.....I have a quick question.....I put a new 20K Radium bulb back in February.....how do you guys know that is time to change the bulb (i use them 7 hours per day).....I am trying to figure out if the brownish algae in my coral tips and monti cap is because of the bulb, maybe because my tank was running at 80-81 degrees?.........My understanding is that Radiums last up to 10 months....by the way it cant be the water because it was professionally tested and everything came out ok.

thanks for your help

Which one did you have?

it was a flame angel, however, they are all similar. In a large tank, a little nibbling wont cause much harm. In such small tanks, they tend to pick on a few corals and wont let up. There are always exceptions but it is risky. I had to drain all the water to get the little bastard out. Was my favorite fish too.

Finally made it through all 87 pages of this thread

Jumped back into reefing about 2 weeks ago (previously had 3 reef tank setups) and picked up a 12g DX from Marine Depot during their sale, really wanted the 28g though. Went to one of my LFS only to find they had a killer deal going on for the 28g CF's well my better instincts kicked in and I picked up the tank and stand yesterday.

Transfered the LR from the 12g, picked up some more for the 28 as well as new Bahama Oolite (Love this stuff) and set it all up last night, pretty much stock so far except for a Koralia Nano and Jager heater

Will Make a build thread for the tanks as soon as I can upload some pics

JBJ upgraded nanocube hood

JBJ upgraded nanocube hood

Hey guys,
I want to upgrade my light to a 250W aquamedic pendant....just thinking before I do it, would anybody be interested in buying my jbj nano cube hood?...it comes with a very nice crisp Radium 20K light and has the upgraded nanotuners actinic pc bulbs. (the bulbs are 6 months old, for a radium bulb that is plenty of life left)

let me know.

Thanks
