I saw a post on the earlier pages of this thread about the small black "mystery cap" that comes with the nano cube. no one seems to know what it is for. I think it can be used to cap off one of the return outlets if you don't plan to be using both returns.
I just bought the JBJ LED refugium light today from premium aquatics. I checked a bunch of other places and no one else seems to have them in stock.
Hey, I have been a long time lurker of this awesome thread. I have gleaned much good advice from this thread. In particular I want to thank SlvrSurfRidr, hppd432, breeze and mr9iron for their advice on questions of mine. I have gotten great ideas for my tank. I has hoping to share them in nTOTM but tides changed quickly 4 days into voting on Saturday afternoon where I lost a double digit lead and have been buried in the dust in matter of hours. However, I want to contribute some of the things I have done to my JBJ HQI this thread.
I had no major modification except NT did a 2xPC retrofit. I use the stock skimmer. The middle chamber is used hppd432 mesh unit to carry live rock, purigen and chemipure elite. I also use filter floss in this middle chamber. I use to use hppd432 chaeto idea in the back but my clams take care of keeping nitrates low, I guess. I do run the JBJ chiller wired to a UV sterilizer that I use when I first itroduce a new fish. For Ca and Alk I use ESV b ionic.
This tank has been running for a little over a year. All my SPS frags started around an inch expect the birdnest and the staghorn in the upper right. They were about 1/2 closed fist size. All the growth has been around or less than a year. I now have over 20 sps species all thriving, 2 maxima clams and 10 varieties of zoanthids. There are several softies including a must of my 4 year old, the pink pulsing xenia.
If anybody wants Bali green slimer frags, red monti cap or pink pulsing xenia, LMK. I have frags frequently. Just pay for the shipping. I know xenia do not ship well. If you are clos, stop by.

Here is a slightly better picture.
Here is my flame hawk and one of my clams.

Thanks again for keeping this awesome thread. I see all the time people, giving our tank a hard time. Hopefully these pics can prove you can maintain a decent tank with the JBJ nanocube HQI (may be not nTOTM quality but close - hopefully I have not disappointed JBJ HQI owners to much) . It can hold clams, difficult SPS and softies alike!
If you have questions, please let me know. I have taken so much from this thread, it would be an honor to give back some to those on this thread.

That is an amazing ecosystem you have there. IMHO, it is NOTM material. How often are you changing your chemipure elite and purigen? Also, tell us more about your maintenance habits, like lighting cycle, water changes etc. My tank was recently reborn and I hope to achieve the success that you have.
Exactly. I second that. I have seen too many JBJ 28G thread starts and then they lose interest or upgrade etc. Yours is an SPS/mix tank, whish is quite hard to achieve, so your efforts are paying off. Therefore, please post as much info as possible as it will help others achieve that much more.
Just to answer some quick questions. I change the purigen and chemipure elite monthly. I actually recharge the purigen after experimenting on a smaller 24 gallon nano with softies. .
I just change them out if habit. The purigen is only half exhausted. He middle chamber is easy to make and cost less than 5 dollars. I will try to post a pic this weekend.

Great tank. What are you using for flow in your tank? Just the stock pumps?
Also, what are you doing for your Ca/Alk? Two-part? Ca reactor? Those SPS/clams must be sucking up you Ca.
I am goi g to use a maxi jet 1200 to push it from the floor up tithe rear chamber. I saw where some said this is a little to much flow.
