JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

Is there a website or link to DIY ATO. Thanks to corrado007 and SlvrSurfRidr.

Several pages back I posted a brief write-up on my DIY ATO with a few photos and a schematic diagram.
Here's a link that should direct you to my post with photos:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=18259667&postcount=1288
And here's a link to the post with my schematic:http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=18265828&postcount=1302
And here's a link to AquaHub's DIY section for an alternative to my version:http://www.aquahub.com/store/doityourself.html

Hope these links help. Good luck and feel free to ask questions on the ATO if you have any and I'd be happy to try to help.

I am completely new to Reef Keeping, and after spending the last 6 months gathering as much information as I could, I have decided to jump into this amazing hobby with a JBJ Nano Cube 28 LED.

One thing I really do not care for is the stand that currently comes with this Nano, which is why I plan on purchasing the AIO unit without the stand. I would like the tank to be higher, and really just do not prefer the overall look. Are there any other stands someone could recommend?

Would something like the desk in the attached image work? Would I need to reinforce with wood glue, 2x4's, etc?

Thanks, really appreciate any help!

I wouldn't get anything that's made of mdf, once it's wet the structure is weaken. Even though the jbj stand is flimsy the wood they use is stronger than mdf. I would look into something that's made of solid wood maybe something from a unfinished furniture place.

Man I don't know if that would work or not-that would make me very nervous. The JBJ stand with the little silver cylinders that raise the tank up is one of the taller stands I've seen. I would almost think for $200 that you could have someone build you a stand at the height you want with a 2x4 structure but a less expensive veneer type outer surface.

Sorry to tell you all this, but our jbj nano stand is also made out of mdf! although they did a good job at laminating it. I am actually happy with the stand myself, sure it could be a little wider for more stability but all in all it is a good stand. And i think for 28 gallon tank that desk would hold up just fine. imo...

Thank you all for the help and input so far; seems like it's obvious it will be somewhat of a risk, but after hearing the nano stand is mdf as well, maybe one worth taking!

@MrIcky, you are right, for $200 I may also look into getting something custom built, might be the best route if I can find someone good.

I do not have my tank yet but want to start a foam rock wall. Could someone tell me te dimensions that I want? Also where the returns are? Thanks

So i just got my koralia 750 (it sure does seem big for this tank but i got it for $22 online) and i have it mounted on the side of the tank. The problem i have is the power cord goes over the side of the tank and will not allow my canopy to shut all the way. Should i just cut a notch in the canopy just big enough for the cord to fit through or have any of you done something different?

I want to add a sump to the JBJ 28, I wanting to know the options I have:

how hard is the jbj 28 to drill? what bulkhead, etc

I never drilled before so kind of nervous.

I just got it, setting it up today, I have never had any issues with a "U Tube" overflow before, So hopefully I wont with this one ;)

I will take a few Pic's when finished

If you look at the back edge of the canopy, you'll see some thinner areas that are notched thinner for easy drilling. You don't want the canopy sitting on the cord- it will eventually cut the cord.

I've drilled so many holes in my canopy now...lol. I think I need to do a wood canopy or something at this point.

Thank you MrIcky, i am going to either drill it or dremel it later tonight. I will look for the thinner areas :spin1:

Sorry to get off topic but the JBJ LED Hood or Nanotuners 4.6 LED hood worth it?

I think I may go with the overflow box, the only thing is with the box is to have some safety like Water Sensors, Check Valve im guessing.
