JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

Really? No other smelly skimmer out there :)

I will try that. Taking off the skimmer for a couple of days. Fish load is really light. 1 firefish, 1 Geometric Hawk, and a tailspot blenny. i do have a lot of acans and lps which I do spot feed quite a bit (3x per week). I do not have any algae issues and the tank water does not smell, so maybe I guess that is why the skimmer works so well.

Can I add some carbon to the collection cup? Would that help? maybe I will ask Roger from Tunze.

The skimmate is normally pretty stinky, but I only smell that when I open the cup. Try soaking the skimmer in vinegar for a day or two.

I know this has been discussed in the past but I just thought I'd post my recent experience with my Tunze 9002. It had stopped producing skimmate and I couldn't figure out why. I cleaned the cup, adjusted the air intake, etc... but nothing. An important note here is that I did the YouTube mod to mine. I ended up taking the skimmer out, taking it apart, and found that the tubing I used to extend the air line got a kink in it over time. I just pulled out that tubing and replaced it with a new, higher quality air line and now it's working beautifully, just like before. It's pulling all sorts of gunk out of the tank. If anyone has a Tunze that's not working like you remember it working before, check your air line.

I wanna ask you guys something.
Does this mod improve the skimmer function or only makes it easier to adjust the air intake?
Thanks

Good question. As far as I have noticed, it just allowed for much easier fine tuning which does, I suppose, lead to better skimming. Other people will chime in as well I hope for more opinions.

I just joined this club. Picked up a 28 with HQI at the LFS today.

However, the package has a few problems:
1. does not include a skimmer
2. One of the pumps was missing. The LFS gave me a maxijet 900 for free.

So far, I've added 40lbs of sand, about 8lbs of rock. Bought pre-salted water from the LFS.

I picked up a few tests from petco (bleh) to test nitrate, ammonia, ph & alk. Going to order the test to test for nitrite, calcium from Amazon (should be here in 2 days).
Also added a 100w heater.

I now plan the following:
1. Let the tank cycle.
2. Will do weekly water changes.
3. Add more rock from established tanks in 2-3 weeks.
4. Get digital timers for the lights/moonlight.

A question or two:
1. I removed the media from the media basket. I plan on adding chaeto. Is there anything else I should add in there?
2. Since this one did not come with a skimmer, I will have to buy one eventually. Should I go ahead with it right away, or wait? and instead of getting the original skimmer, should I get some other?
3. I will be buying a MP10 in the next few months when I add any lifestock.

For anyone who uses a CPR HOB Refugium, do you guys use a small or medium on your 28JBJ? Which one fits better?
Also, if anyone wants a Tunze 9002 you can PM me.

So, I've had the JBJ28 HQI for a couple of years now, works great, but after lots of scraping off coralline algae, the inside of my glass has lots of scratches. Last few days I've been looking online for a JBJ 28 tank only and I cannot find it anywhere. Is it available only as a package? Doesn't make sense to me as you can get everything else (stand, canopy, etc) as parts.

What legs are those?

Here are a bunch of before and after FTS's. Tell me what you think! :-)

Just thought I'd share some updated photos of my 28 Gal LED Nano.

First a FTS from this evening.

My BlueSpot Jawfish

I'm thinking of changing the stock bulb on my cube. I've preferred the 10k Ushio when I had a 10G tank. Would the ballast work fine with a 150W Ushio 10000k bulb?

Very nice!

I've been thinking about my fish list, and definately want a bluespot jawfish. I just have to make sure I put in lots of rubble before I get it. Its a good thing I have not yet finished adding my rocks. So good time to get the rubble.
