JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

Just ordered a 28 nano-cube with LED. What's the best set up for soft corals and a few fish. What would be the best skimmer for this set up. Is a UV unit recommended? If I use a skimmer and UV unit is there space for refug with macro algae? Also does it matter which testing kit I use? Thanks

Does that mounting bracket stick out in the front? The lighting looks great, but I can't tell if that bracket is physically protruding an inch or two in front of the tank?

yes it does come out about an inch or 2 but i got use to the look, doesnt bother me.

if you really wanted it to fit snug, you can cut it down

It looks to have a nice spectrum, I'd be curious how your coral does with it. I'm looking to replace my stock JBJ CF hood.

im a proud jbj 28g cf-quad owner and here is my tank as of lately...

Yeah I have 28 jbj with cf also
I HAVE A MH Stock hood I got in the garage from some guy for 100$

I have not hooked it up since I replaced mt bulb a week before I got the Hood.

SO far I am happy with the PC I HAVE SOME SPS doing great!!!

The yellow tang has been surviving ... cuz he is small ... yea i plan to upgrade to a much larger tank .. im going to have to soon cuz i don't plan on fragging my mushroom leather or torch coral

Just wanted to post a front pic of my tank, it has just completed 1 year!
Tell me what you think of it.
Sorry about the crappy iPhone quality, I still did not get a decent camera!
Thanks!

How is the flow from the overflow to the middle chamber? I have a 28g with the HQI and am wondering if the flow in my tank is not right.

I have a CPR aquafuge powered by the stock pump sitting in chamber 1. And no output from the right side return pipe. I somehow don't find the water flowing fast thru to the middle chamber from the tank.

The left is powered by a maxi-jet 900, and I have a mp10 @ 100%.

Here are some shots of my JBJ28, Tanks been wet for about a month and a half and just added some clean up crew yesterday. Still waiting on the MP10 and Profilux Touch screen (Yay toys).

Other than that not a whole lot to take a picture of in there as of yet.

The AI Sol should be perfect for this tank. Looks like a Blue is it? Also did you swap the optics out in the middle? I sold off my AI when I bought my LED JBJ but I miss it dearly. Its a bit overkill but I expect you will have great results with it. You plan on an SPS dominant tank?

Yup Super Blue, with the original optics outside 70 and inside 40. It is more than overkill lol. Im not planning on keeping anything to crazy in this tank, it was more of a test of a few things before my dual 180 setup gets going here in the new year. Looks like those tanks will be LED as well.

You might want to consider changing those optics in the middle out to 70* then. I had my Sol over a 24x24x10 mounted 15-18" up and was still getting near 400-500 par on the bottom with the 40*. I love the Sol and now that they have lowered the price on them I think they are perfect in any application. I dont think I drove my fixture over 60% but I checked my par readings on the old tank before mounting the AI and dialed it in to be safe. Nice work so far. Good luck!

I would love to get my hands on a par meter. I max out at 60% as well, 65% on the RB as I love the blue tint. I read a thread a while back on a Sol modal that had par reading at certain powers on a tank my depth. I cant recall the exact number now but I remember it looking OK. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure the thread was on RC somewhere.

Yeah I think thats the AI thread here. Try your LFS or local reef club for the par meter. I borrowed mine from the LFS.

Has anyone replaced the moonlight LED's with something more powerful? Looking at a simple way of adding some blue. Running a 14k phoenix, but don't want to run a 20k+ ushio just yet.
