JBJ LED Pro Dimming?

Now that I have JBJ 28 gallon LED Advanced/Pro set up and running, I'm discovering that those lights are bright (and maybe not the best color spectrum, but that's another conversation).

Is there any after-market mods or dimmers out there? It's taken about 7 weeks, but the SPS I put in there are really starting to bleach.

Thanks!

Kevin

Good question. My LED Advanced hood has bleached all off my SPS corals to a uniform pale white. Makes for a boring color combination, but things are still growing. I don't mean to discourage you but if there aren't any mods for this hood out there, I may ditch it in favor of a Gen 1 Radion

I've had mine for a little over a year. 1 week past the year warranty the 4 "actinic" lights went out. Jbj took a week to respond to an email and said warranty was out so no free replacements. I took out 2 rows of whites and replaced them with 2 uv, 2 green, 2 red, and 4 rb. I also added 12 rb on a dimmable driver in place of the 4 that went out. The color is much better but I still need to replace the driver for the whites with a dimmable one.

This is where I appear to be going. How long have you had the corals? I'm wondering if the corals ever get acclimated to the lights and begin coloring back up. If not, I may end up sticking with LPS...

Everyone keeps telling me that the bleaching will reverse, but I haven't seen any improvement. I've had the hood at least 4 months... Oh and a row of the white lights went out. It's still under warranty but if I sent it off to get fixed I'd still have to replace the light in the meantime. I'm not a JBJ fan anymore. The concept of their aquariums is great but the quality of what they build is unacceptable in my opinion.

had my 28g led pro for more than 2 years already and i would say the lights are too strong my SPS never get used to them and the colors still didnt color back up. so much for the getting use to part. i was hoping that it will eventually get used to the lights but did not. may look at options to diy to more blues with dimmable options.

What about the apex controller? I have never used it so bear with me :). From what I have read can't you just plug it in and dim from there? I like the idea of the jr version, I might be able to afford it. I just got the pro hood and was hoping to cut wattage almost in half.

If anyone knows which driver to change to please let us, me know. Here is a noobish thought, can you draw with permanent marker on glass and if it doesn't work wipe it off, will it stain glass?

The more I think about it, the more concerned I would be about dimming the hood with just the stock LEDs inside. There is just so very little blue spectrum light with this hood, that without adding more actinic spectrum, I'm worried that just dimming the white LED's it comes with would be a bad idea; unless of coure if was possible to BRIGHTEN the blue lights, but I doubt that would work.

Yeah, I really think I'm just going to cut my losses and ditch this hood altogether.
