JBNY's 270 Ver2.0

Yeah A few pieces did fall into the water. Doesn't look like it did any damage. Most of the pieces were fairly large, like an inch or bigger. Only a few were smaller than that. I really don't get how it happened though. I have had that fixture for about 7 years why would it happen now?

Several years ago, I had the outer glass shield on a 250 w mh crack open on me when I was away for a weekend. When it cracked, it shifted away by about 1/4 inch but didn't shatter into pieces. This allowed a sliver of unshielded light to penetrate the tank. When I got home there was strip of bleached and burned corals directly below where the crack had opened up.. It was both frustrating and cool to see the effects of the uv on the exposed corals.. I have no idea why it cracked..

Basically it became a UV sterilizer.....

That does sound pretty cool looking, but I would have been frustrated as well with the event. I do try to at least appreciate the artistic choices that our tank shows us when it decides to take out one of its inhabitants.

So believe it or not I am still waiting on the replacement glass for my spectra. I ordered it locally and despite being told it would take 3-5 days to get, and me calling every week. After having a big discussion with them they finally called me back and told me the original order never was received correctly and they would have to resubmit. So hopefully it will be here in a few more days. Oh boy. :(

But other than that the tank is really looking good. I have had better growth and really good coloration in the last month, so I am extremely hopeful that maybe my rodi unit was the cause of at least some of my problems.

Here are a few picture form last night, one of the main things for me is that I am now starting to see some axial corallite growth, something that was frustratingly absent for the last year. Now I see growth at the tips on a bunch of frags, very excited.

This has only been in the tank a little over a month and has already started to grow some little nubs!

More growth from the tips.

I thought this guy was a goner two months ago, no growth, terrible color. Now it looks like a champ.

Same with this one, it was tan for a good two months and just started to encrust and color up. Oh boy am I excited for this one.

Not really encrusting yet, but coloring up and showing some nice yellow on the corallite edges.

Oh yeah... They are getting ready to pop.
That reddish one with yellow highlights is going to be something else.
And the first one also looks like something special, like there might be some blue in there.
Very nice!

I'm jealous

Of your rocks being so purple!

Ha! yeah I've got some crazy coralline growth going on.

Frags look awesome.

Many thanks slowly coming together.

Sorry I missed it, but did you get your wild corals from? Happy to hear about the comeback.

The wild ones I got locally from Kevin over at Pets Warehouse in Copiague.

Thanks Matt, I told my wife that the other day, also said that every time I say that something bad happens. So I've got my fingers crossed. That pink/red with yellow is a Reefer cove Poison envy, hopefully it continues to do well. It's a beauty! The First one is a Pikachu, it doesn't normally have any blue but who knows... maybe.

Things are looking really good !

Are you going to be at the swap this weekend?

Thanks! I am planning on going to the MR Frag swap.

Really nice frags! The pink one with the green base and yellow tips is going to be amazing. Going to be fun watching it grow out.

I love the Poison Envy too...I think Im addicted to pink/red corals:)

I think I am starting too as well. They are all so purdy!

Thanks, yeah I am excited to watch the tank grow.

You have some great frags there Joe, I can't wait to see a FTS in 12 months.

Thanks, Me too!

Amazing looking frags. Is that pink and yellow the Bali shortcake?

Thank you, I think that one you are asking about is the RC Poison Envy

The frags above are

1) Pikachu
2) BC Therman's Rainbow
3) BC Mondo Pink
4) BC Soda Pop
5) RC Poison Envy
6) Unique Coral (UC) Azureus
7) UC Strawberry Shortcake

Nice ! Looking forward to meeting you and chatting .

We are in the same boat we are re starting to grow out frags :)

New frags look incredible. One day, once I've graduated out of nano reef tank world, then I'll compete on nice looking corals. Until then I'll just enjoy the many fantastic setups, like yours, shared here on RC.

I wish they included usernames and/or name tags at these events. See you both at the MR swap!
