JBNY's 270 Ver2.0

If I lived in the states, I'd be asking Joe that question while standing in his living room.. as we would be 'testing' each coral, the frags would be slipping quietly into my baggy lined pocket!
No matter Biscuit or cookie..

Your growth rates are amazing, well done Joe! The whole tank looks very healthy, I'm totally jealous of your success in such a short time span. I know you've worked hard at it and it shows.

Thanks, it just takes persistence.

Hi Joe,

Coral growth is very impressive.

How do you find your corals' skeletal density? Do they break easily like biscuits or are they like tough cookies?

Thanks

haha interesting analogy, they are pretty tough definitely like tough cookies. I few time when trying to frag a coral I find the rock moving and the branch not breaking, so not brittle.

That's a good plan!

FTS from the weekend

Really nice Joe. It has come a long way in the past 13 months.

Thanks Mark, it really has. I had family in over the weekend and they had not seen the tank in a little over 1 1/2 years, they were socked at what it looks like now remembering the difficulties I was having at the time.

Wow! That is absolutely impressive growth for a little over a year. Very jealous of your success but i know you have worked hard for it so hats off to you. I'm loving your coral selection too, some real nice pieces in there.

Whoops, seems I've repeated myself, gotta watch that. But that just goes to show how impressed i am.

Amazing growth as always.

In your opinion, what trace element/metal causes that shiny effect on your acropora corals?

Thanks! yeah it's was a rough journey getting the tank back but I feel better that I didn't break it down and fixed the problems, it definitely makes me appreciate the current state even more.

Incredible FTS, what a fantastic looking reef.

Thanks Mark!

I am not sure, show a picture of what you are referring to. But if I had to guess I am going to say it is the metal halides, they give a glow to the acros that you can not get with T5 or LED.

Totally amazing, Joe!
Those colonies look dinner plate size. In no time.

You are not kidding, a few of them are really picking up steam.

I've had a thought Joe. You stay at my place for 12 months and grow my acros out into a stunning SPS reef like yours and i will look after your acros for 12 months.
You can rest assured that nothing will change in your reef and you can simply take up where you left off mate. If i get within 20 feet of any SPS display it's like putting the tank into one of those suspended animation life pods on the space ships.......... time will stop for 12 months in regards to acro development, trust me on this mate

Looking beautiful :)

Perfect. :) What a great tank size too, just the right amount of space.

Thanks Mark.

Joe, tank looks amazing. Are you still dosing TLF amino acids?

Thanks, I stopped dosing TLF AA a while ago. I read a few papers that showed that AA are really just another form of nitrates to the corals and corals are more easily able to take up Nitrates than AA so I stopped dosing the AA. Based on where my current tank is I don't see a need to dose AA anymore.

Thank you Andrew. If I could get out to you I would. I wish I could give you whatever magic is currently flowing through my tank.

That tank is looking amazing! Fantastic growth and great color you have there!

Have you ever measured your PAR?

That's good to hear Joe. The reason why I asked the question was because there was a guy in the UK who used Triton elements in this tank and his corals, A. gomezi, in particular, were very brittle. His case must be an isolated case.

This photo is just amazing.

Get tank Joe. I've been following your tank builds for probably a decade now. Never fail to impress.

My tank hit the skids after 6 years and I'm at a point either I completely break it down and start over or hang it up. Been doing this for the last 17 years. This forum has been been great. A couple of questions. I think (from another forum) you are/were using an ultra reef skimmer: how do you like it? Would you choose another? What kind a sand and rock are you using?

Keep up the fantastic work. And thanks
