JCole's box of rocks

One week into the cycle, and bacteria are growing. I added some live rock to the tank this morning. Looking forward to the addition. I haven't had live rock in my systems in over ten years. Ammonia is still present and nitrates are still 0, so I still have a little time to go.

Joe Caperatta with Marco Rocks sent it to me. It comes from the keys. I also just bought another 20lbs from KP today. That should be here next week. It is just the base starter rock. Just looking to add more rock to jump start the cycle. I might order another 20lbs in a month or so of the premium rock once the tank is cycled.

The plan is to move them to a cryptic zone or the sump in a couple of months.

It is nice rock but unfortunately the coralline, etc isn't looking the best now. Hopefully after the cycle then it will start coming back. If not, then atleast the bacteria should do it's thing.

Wait, Marco Rocks sells live rock?
 
Anyone know of a good source for marine plants? Most places I know of are out of stock. I want to put various plants throughout in the sand along with Gorgs in the rockwork.

KP’s rock reminds me of the old Fiji, Tonga, Namoli, Marshall Island rock and is fantastic. I’ve only bought their premium but it was awesome.

Shane has you covered on the best place to get macros.

That is good to hear. It is the base starter rock but still looks nice in the pictures. I will probably get another 20 lbs of premium when the tank is cycled and can handle life a little better.
 
Cycle is running slow. I am still showing ammonia but no nitrite or nitrates. I did dose a little of microbacter 7 at the start over last weekend. At that time I used some Vodka and NoPox as well. That created a huge bacteria bloom. I don't know if that stalled the cycle out but it seems slower than I remember. I used some Caribsea live sand and also the live rocks from Marco. I didn't want to dump in a bunch of bottled bacteria but went ahead and added Microbacter Start XLM this morning. Hopefully, that will get the cycle going.

I wonder if I should toss a shrimp in the tank as well?

Russ wrote me this morning. Seems like a good guy. I will pick some up from him in the next couple of weeks. Thanks again for the recommendation.
 
Anyone ever dosed bleach to their system? I am on 2 weeks now at 1.5ml daily. So far, I am liking the results. Two weeks is still to early for anything, but we shall see.
