Jebao Powerhead Else mode ?

Does anyone know if which or any, jebao powerheads on else mode, can you control the maximum speed ?



I have a 20 gallon lps/sps mixed reef aquarium and have been looking at the jebao powerheads. The 1000gph max seems like it may be to much if it was on too long. Ones i have been considering include the wp10, rw4, pp4, sw4.

If I recall correctly the else mode is random. The PP series allows you to control the intervals between the pulses and the intensity overall. One pp4 would work for your size tank (might even be too much).

I understand in else mode timing and durations, flow rate are random but can a max flow rate be specified ?

No they can't out of the box. Save yourself the headache and get a Vortech.

on the wave modes you can control the time between pulses with the knob, intensity is done with the button.

I have had 3 rw/pp 4's and about to buy another. absolutely make sure you buy from a seller that either has a year warranty or buy the extra warranty on eBay (that one is great because they just pay you when it dies, no need to send the pump in or anything). i say why leads me to number 2
when you get the pump take it apart and get rid of the small ceramic washer that is behind the impeller assembly. take some standard soft airline tubing (walmart or wherever) and cut it to the sameish thickness of the ceramic one.

that ceramic washer in place eventually binds up the impeller and ruins the pump motor. with the airline they actually last longer than 9 months. clean them every few months at the most. if the pump stops spinning make sure you get it going right away. if you le it go a few weeks it ruins the pump.

the controllers connections are junk at best. keep them in a dry place.

having had both the vortechs and the rw/pp's the vortechs are better. much better flow pattern but there louder (never tried the new quiet drive's) and after a few years the bearings go out on the dry side. the jaebo's might last a few years if taken care of but that's a might. there cheap for a reason, you can afford to replace them when they do stop working. I like them better because there much quieter than my old mp10's. they are not silent by any means, you hear them singing all day on else mode. different pitched wir's.

Im just concerned that a pp4 in a 20 gallon tank will result in only being able to use w1 and h modes if the flow rate speed cant be adjusted in the w2 or else modes

Does the night mode only come on when it is activated ?

That is one reason I like to recommend not oversize the jabeo's. It may not matter for some people but I like to run them in else mode & in that mode u can't control anything except where u point it. If u oversize u have to use them in one of the wave modes which some people may prefer anyways. I'm pretty sure it's only else mode that u can't control the intensity.

U have to activate night mode for it to come on, then when the controller is in the dark it will activate itself. I'm not to familiar with it though because I don't use it. It would need a sensor that is on a cord so u I could place it in my canopy to know when the lights shut off. I keep the controller in the sat and so it wouldn't work for me

Check out the JBWave controller for the Jebao heads. It gives you full control on all pump parameters--min, max, ramp time, dwell time... has 10 preprogrammed patterns and can be programmed/operated from your phone. Runs about $80.

Thank you all for the helpful insight i ordered a jebao sw2 hopefully no problems fingers crossed. Could find anything available in canada that has a year warranty, at least the impellers are cheap for these wavemakers
