Ok folks, got my Jebao RW-8 "Wireless" controllers in the mail yesterday and got them setup last night. So I thought I would give my first impressions along with some pitchers.
So there they is out of the box with it's components. So far so good.
Now compare them to what was in my tank, two Koralia 1050s. You notice it is a lot smaller.
I put two of them in my tank one in the front left corner and one in the back right corner. This may change I just haven't figured out the best way to set them yet.
All in all I like them a lot so far. I have them set in W1 on the lowest speed and lowest dial speed. I had them turned up and WHOA there was a TON of flow! My corals were basically bent in half. Even on the lowest speed there is a TON of flow and a LOT of water movement in the tank. I almost think two of these is overkill in such a small tank. Of course placement may fix that, yet to be determined.
As far as cycling through the modes and the speeds, it is really simple. Pretty intuitive when you figure out what patterns the pumps operate on. The instructions did not do a really good job explaining them so I went online and found a helpful chart that explained how the pumps work in regards to off and on times and what not. Feed mode is nice as it turns off the pumps for 10 mins so you can feed and you can manually cancel it as well. From what I have read it is also really easy to incorporate these into a controller.
Now the only drawbacks I have seen so far.
When I initially plugged them in and set them to "master" and "slave" (which is stupid simple) the "master" pump did not initially work right away. I found out I had to manually push the propeller with something to get it started. After that I had no issues.
Also, last night I put the controllers into "night" mode to slow down the pump when it's dark outside. This afternoon, I noticed they were still in "night" mode and did not appear to have sped up at all during the day. The instructions say "quit the mode by long press down "night" button until yellow indicator dims". So...I long pressed the button...for like a minute...the indicator never dimmed. I had to power off and on both pumps to get both pumps out of night mode and then had to cycle the modes back to W1 from its "flow" mode. All in all not a huge bother, just annoying.
So...initial thoughts.
1. WOW there is a TON of flow from these things.
2. W1 and "flow" mode seem to be the most useful with the others being "eh".
3. Night mode...yeah...
I would recommend them off of 24 hours use. We shall see in the weeks to come!
