Is there a way to shut these off without just unplugging them ?

A timer can do that too.
Not on the stock controller.I have a controller but didn't know if there was a way on the controller that came with it
My two where fine ran them in a bucket before placing them.
Watter was clear in the test bucket.
But I know who your talking about who ran there's and water was all dark.

I wonder if he/she was using well water rich in Iron or other metals...good to hear it was just a one time issue.
Pickling vinegar is 9% acidity, it is all I use and have been for many years. I have used it straight on virtually every piece of equipment in my tank. It wasn't the vinegar, I have no idea what it is, but the vinegar is not the problem.
inferior qualiy
I dont know if its been posted or not but one thing I realized last night is that the controller will not remember the last setting it was on when your power goes out. Woke up to my wp25 on the HI setting. Slight drip down the side of my tank. I keep mine on W1.
My power went out for about an hour last night.
Well it happened with mine last night. Kinda sucks for me because I travel alot and if that happens while I'm away, I will have water leaking. It has been posted in the WP-40 section, but that does not seem to be the case on all of the pumps.
I've seen it 2-3 times but for the most part people have not been experiencing this.
