Jebo 520 Beckett Mod

I modified Jebo 520 with beckett. I am using Rio 32 Hf on it. The problem is that, it only draws 8 lpm of air. Is it normal? I found a deal on resun MD 40 pressure pump (I think it is the same pump as Gen-X PCX30). Should I buy it? I've heard that, even rio 32 hf is more powerful (1920 gph at 1 feet) 825 gph pressure rated resun performs better. What should I do? Thanks.

Flow rated pumps cannot run a beckett effectively.

For best performance a beckett likes 1000gph
so Yes to the MD-40 as a better alternative, but still slightly underpowered.
Even if it's only a little bit better, the MD-40 would have better resale value if you needed to sell it again.

To be honest becketts can almost not care on how much flow they get. They run off pressure not flow.A pump that does 800-900 gph wth a head height of 24ft or more would be the most suitable pump to use.

The more head pressure a pump has,the better the beckett will perform. You can throw as much flow as you want at it,just make sure the pump is pressure rated for 24ft of head height or better for best results.

By the way,can you post up a few pics of the modifications you did to the skimmer?Would be interesting to see a Jebo with a beckett on it.

Thank you for the reply. Here are the pictures:

Now it is pulling 6 lpm of air :( .

Like I stated above, its not the large amounts of flow that a beckett needs. They work off pressure and that rio you got has a max head of 14 ft.Try to borrow a pump with a higher max head, something thats in the 25ft or so range.

Oh yeah, thanks for posting the pics.Nice to see someone do a beckett mod on such a small skimmer.

My batts on my keyboard ran out during my last post.Be careful with becketts as they can pull up to 100 scfh. Not sure on the diameter of the neck on your skimmer but it looks to be about 2" wide.A 2" neck can handle up to about 10 scfh max. Your at about 12 scfh now.

How much air do most people get through on a beckett? I am looking for a new skimmer and I am looking at the Octopus Extreme 300 with about 1000lph. Will a beckett come close?

It all depends what pump is used to feed the beckett/s.To answer your question, yes a beckett skimmer can do that and more.It will also cost you more to operate because of the large pump you will have to use to run it.

Yes, I removed the old venturi, but I realized that air intake was too small, I changed it and air went up 9-10 lpm. Preimo, have you measured your air intake and what pump are you using? And also I connected injector to the existing jebo piping, I think it is 1" in diameter, could it be the problem ?(too much back pressure) Thanks.

Thanks alpine I did some searching and found upto 1400lph from a beckett but it required a pump that used 200+ watts. It looks like needle wheel is the continued way to go for me.

Theres only 2 draw backs to beckett skimmers imo.

1.Is the way the body transitions to the neck, its a flat plate and the bubbles tend to accumalate and form larger bubbles.A simple remedy would be for the compnaies to use a dome or cone.

2.The fact that they use some power hungry pumps to perform well.

they are really good skimmers, but now that low wattage pumps and nw are all the rage they have got a lot less attention.I have thought about building a recirc version for my tank.I used to have a large beckett before and it kept the tank real clean, especially with how heavy I used to feed the tank.

Bukor, yes that could be your limiting factor.IIRC the intake pipe on my beckett was 1.5" or 2" diameter. Also can you post a pic of your new air intake.Useing a valve makes fine tuning the air intake a lot easier.

For those of you that are interested reeflo is having a sale for there wahoo pumps $190 includeing shipping. That would be a very good pump to run a single beckett off of.

Max flow = 1760 GPH
Max head = 32 feet

Bukor forgot to ask,but do you have a way to release the air pressure in your skimmer cup?Becketts produce a lot of air pressure within the skimmer and a few holes drilled in the collection cup lid will help to let the air escape.

alpine, I used the air meter fitting:

The lid has a fairly big hole. And also I am really happy with foam production so far with current air flow (9 lpm steady)
Thanks.

You really wanna use something else thats not metal especially brass.Your risking contaminating your tank with some nasties.
