Jedi mind trick

I recently aquired via trade 9 new sps frags. All seem to be doing well with exception to the jedi mind trick. The corals all came from a local reefer who had them in a 180 under 8x54w ATI powermudule. I placed all the frags on the sandbed after acclimation. I have my tank lit by 8x54watt t5s as well. Not ATI fixture but 4x54 w aquaticlife and 4x54 watt nova extreme andall ATI/geisemann bulbs. The jedi mind trick is showing recession in very small patches (4 patches the size of a ballpoint pen tip) and minor bleaching around the edges. Ive had the frags for exactly 7 days and the issues are just showing as of 11pm saturday night. I moved the jedi mind trick to a shaded area to see if it helps. Im concerned I gave it too much light but his fixture was superior to mine in par output. I tested my levels to make sure everything was ok and nothing is off. NO3 - 0, PO4- .04, alk 10.2, mg 1380, cal 460, ph 8.2, temp 79, and sg 1.025. Ive never owned jedi mind trick monti so im looking for any suggestions or help. Do you guys think its light related? The only thing I can think is his fixture is raised above his tank about 12-14 inches and my fixtures sit about 4" above water level possibly giving more par on the sandbed than what his tank would recieve? The frag is only about 1.5"x1.5" so I dont have the option of trimming dead tissue. Thanks for taking a look

You might be thinking too much. It is more likely that the coral just did not transfer as well as the others. You can probably do more harm by jacking with things. I have mine under HQI and it can take way more light that you are giving it. Just put it where you want it and let it be... it is going to live or die probably regardless of what you do.

You might get the PO4 down a bit over the next few months - don't do anything too drastic.

Mine is way up high next to some acros getting blasted by light, and colors are insane! Just give it time.

I've found the Jedi Mind trick to be randomly temperamental. I have mine growing okay on the bottom glass of a 210. Maybe .5-1" per month. It likes the shell more than the glass.

love the jedi mind trick, although, IME its very sensitive. I lost my piece a couple of years ago to nudi's and havent been able to find a piece since. I notice your alk is high, not out of range, just on the high scale. I keep my alk 7.5-8.0, I wonder if the tank it came from had lower alk, that much of a swing could potentially cause issues.

Thanks for the replies. I will find out what his alk was but moving it into the shade it seems to be doing a little better today

My lighting is strong and I usually leave the corals more sensitive to the substrate or near.
Reading your story I believe is something connected to the parameter of your water. Do as the friend mentioned above.
I hope I have ajudade and good luck!

Just leave it alone. Mine will act up once in awhile but always bounces back after a couple days. It grows fast. I got better colors out if mine with more lighting. Good luck

the higher sections are more colorful on mine. sorry for the lousy phone pic quality.
