Anyone going to drop the cash for the new Cubic jellyfish aquarium or wait for an alternative cheaper aquarium? It looks sleek and nice, but the price seems a bit high.

I have a jellyfish aquarium built by Cubic, its been running a while now and I am very happy with it. I have been into jellyfish for a long time and built multiple DIY jelly tanks (with varying degrees of success) over the years.

Compared to the $1000s I have spent on my reef tank through set up, running costs and constant upgrades the jellyfish aquarium has worked out a bargain. All the kit is included so I haven't bought anything else apart form a small air pump. Its very low maintenance and it runs on about 25 watts including flow, filtration and lighting.

As I mentioned, I have spent $1000's on my reef aquarium and the jelly tank gets just as much attention if not more form any visitors we have to the house. Its a little frustrating actually lol

I would love to see some pics of your setup... I have been thinking about a jelly fish system for some time

Jellyfish aquariums are a niche market and would be cool for a little bit but then become very boring. personal opinion.

Here are a couple of pictures of mine.

That's awesome... Is that a specific jelly fish aquarium or something you built yourself? I'm curious about flow and water movement

I think they look very cool, but if it was my only tank I would get bored real quick. My kids used to spend so much time at the local aquarium just staring at them. Are they very common in home setups? I have several friends back home that were very serious in the hobby, but none of them ever mentioned this type of setup.

My jellies are around 3 months old at the moment and doing well. They only live for around a year in the wild so you can't really get to attached to them.

Here's a video that just went up on the Cubic facebook group I thought you might like, these are what I want to try next if I can get my hands on some!

Pretty standard filtering, similar water quality to a fish only saltwater aquarium. Some jellies come form cold water so they need a chiller but some are happy in a wide range of temperatures.

I feed with a special granular/powder food which I buy from the same company that makes the tanks. Moon jellies (the type I keep also like baby artemia and a range of other small fishfoods.

I think there are some types of jellyfish that are bio-luminescent like this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aequorea_victoria

Very few species of jellyfish have actually been kept in aquariums and very little is known about them compared to fish which is why I fond them so interesting and and I love the challenge of trying to keep a new species.

That tank looks awesome! I have been reef keeping for a long time now and could really do with a new challenge, I think jellyfish may be it!

Where did you learn about Jellyfish? I want to know more :)
