Jessezm's 200g Pentagon Corner Tank

Looks good glad you got it figured out.. I just knoticed your post in the PowerCenter thread! Looks like you didn't need my help anyway;)

I like your tank! I just set up a 92 bowfront corner tank..
Here is how I did my stand/canopy. Might give you some ideas on buiding your own.. Atleast you dont have to curve evertying on yours lol!

I have been seriously considering some kind of rail/pully system for the canopy--do you have any threads where you document that part of your build? I'd love to see how you did it. Thanks!

Thanks, I'm setting up my 180 that way to. I dont really have alot of pictures posted on them yet.. I figured once I got them both done I'd post a thread about the build.. I also built an Equipment room thats where those 2 large pipes in the wall go. The 92 is up an running now has been for a couple weeks.. I just got my 180 moved and replumbed it will be done as soon as my linear actuators come in.

Its pretty easy to do.. Infact it was alot easier to automate the canopys then it was to build them :). The canopys are hung on the wall with Heavy Tracks. The tracks just guide it up and down. I have a 12Volt linear actuator mounted in the attic above the tank. The Actuator on the 92 is rated for 150lbs.. For right now I mounted a switch in the stand to raise and lower the Canopy.. But when I do the 180 I plan on putting both Tanks on remote controll! Should be very kewl.. Like an episode of montster house lol

It's fine to do it here, 8ball--I won't have too much to talk about here untill I get my stand going so I don't mind talking about the amazing setup described above!

Yeah 8ball_99, you definitely need to make a thread for that one or your going to spend so much time sending everyone (including me) pm's on that.
3K sounds about right to do a custom stand/canopy high end for that size tank. I actually think it is going to be more work than a bow front as you are going to have to consider all of those seams.

Hey guys, I haven't made a thread yet. Not really sure where and what to post lol.. But anyway I figured I'd show you how the 92 turned out.. The corals are just tossed in there right now.. I'm going to let them adjust awhile before I place them. Let me know what you think of the Aquascaping! I always have a hard time with it.

Here is a Picture of the Equipment room. Thats where those to pipes above the tank go for ventalation. The idea is to keep the moisture and heat in the equipment room and not in the veiwing room.. Ignore the mess in the floor! Still working on things..

I forgot to take some pictures in the attic of the linear actuators and the cables that lift the canopys.. I'll post a couple of them after I take them if you guys are interested.. And BTW they are on Remote controll now!!

Where did you get them ????

I'm guessing your talking about the Actuators? Mine came from Fa automations But there are several sites that sell them in all different sizes. I could have used a winch since I ended up using cables anyway.. When I got the Actuators I planed on having the rods come through the ceiling to the canopys. But my wife wanted steel cables insted. Habor freight sells a 2000 LB 12volt winch for 49 bucks that looks like it would have worked well also. The lifting is pretty easy the hard part is getting the canopys on tracks or slides.

The Tracks I got from Homedepot. They are heavy duty cabinet door slides. I think they are rated for 150lbs. On both tanks I ended up using 22" Tracks. HTH

I am so glad I held off building my canopy until now! Thank you 8Ball!
I put 1/2" plywood behind my tank for the plans of using it for backerboad for builtin cabinets, so I think I can attach the actuator to that and have it push up and have all hardware hidden, very similar to the tv lifts. Man I am going to geek this one out :).

lol Glad it gave you some ideas.. Just a side note dont buy Fa automations 12Volt power supply.. Its not worth 65 bucks your arent maxing out the actuator then you can run a 20 dollar transformer from Radio Shack. I ended up using a Heavduty 15amp one since I've got the 180 canopy and the 92.. Plus I plan on adding a Flat sceen above the 180! I also have a few 12Volt fans in the fish room so they run on it also..

WOW I love this setup!

Looks great keep the pic coming!!

8Ball

That is just sweet! The actuator, the fish room, the tanks, just the whole dam thing is sweet!

Yes, totally inspiring! I'd give anything to have a dedicated fish room! I'm slowly turning the pantry/laundry room on the wall behind my tank into a fish "wall." I'm reinforcing shelving to hold auto topoff, RO/DI, quarantine tank, and maybe a kalk and ca reactors... my wife is going to shoot me!

I saw a local master woodworker about the project. I don't have the money for it yet, but he said he would consider a trade for my motorcycle, which happens to be for sale for the exact price he was asking ($3000). Obviously, this would be the "Bently" option, as opposed to the "chevorlet" it would be if I built it myself... I'm still trying to consider my options. I've been so crazed with the tank just waiting to be set up that I had to at least do something, though, so I just set up a 10 gallon nano the other day to keep me from imploding! so far it's working, and now I've got a start on the livestock for my 200g! In the meantime, let's bug 8ball some more about his obnoxiously cool set up!!

Lol I know exactly how you feel. The closet in the old fish room had a Ton of fish stuff in it.. Including a 35 gallon trashcan!

Thanks for the compliments everyone!!

Jessezm thats a tough choice. But if you dont think you can build it like you want then I'd go ahead and make the trade.. If you don't get it the way you want it now, you will just end up taking it down 6 months from now to change the stand out with what you want!

I remember you saying your cousin had a shop with a table saw and router Table.. If so you might could ask him to help you with it?
