Jims 16" bubble

Hadn't thought about magnets, sure they would work. I just happen to have some stick on velcro on hand.

This is kinda like a snow globe, isn't it. Two little fishes make a flexible nano glass cleaner. I already have one for a 3gal cylinder vase pico tank. They work great on curved glass.

i used four neodymium magnet to hold my door on, it is 3/4" plywood with trim, i just put four screws into the frame of the stand for the magnets to stick too...

you could easily glue magnets to the back of the acrylic (use the 1/8"x 3/4" ones) then you can use a forstner bit to ream out a 1/8" deep hole for the magnets to recess into the plastic of the stand. then directly behind the holes you ream, you could ream another hole 1/8"-1/4" deep and epoxy a magnet into there as well...make sure you get the polarity of the magnets right and she will certainly hold..it actually might not hold to the plastic cover well enough...

i love my TLF mag cleaner...other then it doesnt float...but the magnets are so strong it will pick it up from the other side of the tank...

How quiet is the plumbing when tested? I had the same idea to minimize plumbing and overflow space used in a cube and was hoping this could be a viable option.

Keep up the good work

Hard to tell about noise during my tests, I just had the overflow water dumping into a 5gal bucket. When I was looking into the top of the open overflow pipes I didn't notice any objectionable noise, just a slight moving water sound. This is going to set right by my chair in the living room so I counting on it being fairly quiet (or hoping).

Thanks every one for interest & encouragement! Especially those who have been members for years & posted very little.

Have puttied nail & screw holes, & bought paint. Will start painting soon. Also about to start turning a Osage orange wood top for the stand. For those who are not into wood that much, Osage orange is a very dense very yellow native wood. I may not have mentioned I do wood working, turning, sculpting on the side. If you'd like to see pix of some of my wood pieces I could post some?

Haven't gotten much new on the tank lately, so maybe this will fill the gap?

Some lathe work, but mostly shaping with grinders & sanders. Pretty off topic, but kinda ties in with the wood top to come.

You are a true artist Jim. Those wood peices are spectacular. Now with this long holliday weekend I expect to see some progress on that tank!

Those are beautiful, didnt know you vould work wood on a lathe. Some pretty remarkable bowls though.. Cant wait to see how the canopy comes out! Surprised you didnt go with a wood stand with those skills.

I realized I would need to cut another hole in the stand for the overflow plumbing, so not time to paint yet. I've been doing some changes to my main system so bubble been on hold. But I cleaned up the shop some today & ready to start turning the top for the stand tomorrow. More pix when that is underway.

Well the piece of wood I was going to use for the top had some hidden bark & cracks, end up not being able to use it. I did make a platter out of it though. Luckily I was able to get another piece of Osage from a friend that has a sawmill.

This is it on the lath nearly done.

It wasn't easy cutting this hole for plumbing. The thin dark streaks are hairline drying cracks. Could have turned them out, but kinda liked them & wanted to keep the thickness.

Thought a simple profile would be best.

Still no paint or finish on the top, but can get a idea what it's going to look like.

Feel free to laugh. When I silicone the pluming ring in it will be impossible to get to the nut on the bulkhead if I needed to take it apart for what ever reason. So I made this wrench to get to the nut on the bulkhead. I thought I had seen something like this for sale in the past. But I couldn't find them for sale any where. Gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

Just ordered the rectangular tubing today, hopefully it will be here by the time I'm ready for it.

Thats about it for now.
