Jocelyn's nano tank build

um... i remember seeing them like at pet town... but they're like 10+ a piece... go halfers on some with another reefer... i'm sure others wouldn't mind getting in on they...

Nice tank! I love the Marco rocks. Theyll look great once they color up with coraline.

I would suggest chaetomorpha macroalgae as opposed to mangroves. Theyr beautiful but not as efficient nutrient exporters. Maybe try both. That would look nice too.

orly...?

when i started my tank, i had chaeto... i got a bunch of mangroves, like 30something of they and my chaeto shrank to a couple of bits of spaghetti... when i upgraded protein skimmer, the chaeto died all of the way and half of my mangroves died... they survived super low nutrients more than the chaeto... and the trees don't even have lights... they're behind my tank in the overflow box... also, they don't work for many peoples tanks because they only get like one or two... some reef website, a big one recommends one per every 10 gallons... but the ones that are growing like trees are keeping my phosphate and nutrients to undetectable... i get no algae on my glass... it takes two weeks for it to be visible enough to bother me... then it's just a small film of super thin green stuff...

i remember this kid on ratemyfishtank's forum that successfully replaced his protein skimmer using a dual cycle mangrove bed... it was huge, but it worked... had great colored SPS and everything...

get some mangroves... like 4 in there...

cool tank. if you are looking in to a skimmer this one looks promising. i have been looking in to the use of skimmers on nanos and a lot of people dont use them unless its sps dominate. i might get this for a nano im going to set up. i dont know the size of your back compartment but hydorman on nano reef says that you need 3X4 due to the magnets and 11" of water.

hi jocelyn... you're supposed to have like pics and updates... you're falling behind girl...

if you want to go that route, any salt will do... are you gonna want SPS...? if so i'd recommend some premium salt... any really... a med box of TMP will last you forever... or get a small bucket of red sea coral pro... they're like 24 bucks and make fiddy gallon...

but if you just want like softies and a seahorse (LOL) any salt will do... just do weekly waterchanges and you'll be fine... also, invest in an ATO... make one, or spend the dough... but it will make the hobby way more enjoyable for you...

still in for pics...

how do you like the evo? is the spread pretty good, not to spotlight-ish? looks pretty good from your pictures, but is there separation of the blue and white?

I'm really in love with the lights they're even and no separation of the lue and white. My tank is rather small and I only needed one light so idk if it would look spotlightish on a bigger tank but I think it works well for a nano. I kinda wish it didnt look as blue as it does but it keeps the corals happy and the colors pop out.
