Johnny C's 57G Illuminata Rimless Reef

Got an e-mail from Joe with an update on the stand progress. I am VERY impressed with his work, it should be done this weekend! :smokin:

Also finished drilling the tank and installed the overflow/returns. Picture quality sucks but it's better than nothing. Can you see the overflow? ;)

More to come...

Beautiful stand, must cost a finger or two :D
I am in the DIY planning phase, been drawing and redrawing for two straight days! Sure wont be anything near as nice as yours :)

Nice glass box too, you might want to put a cover of that else fish might jump out, hehehe

Curious, whats the distance from the bottom of the overflow slots to the top of the tank?

Noticed you switched to a different tank manufacturer, can I ask why?

Thanks... believe it or not the stand was a lot more affordable than I planned. Very happy and can't wait to see it all finished. The overflow is about an inch lower than the top. and the bottom of the teeth is about 2' (will run 1/2 way up teeth, so 1 1/2'' from top pane). Water level on a rimless is crutial, on my last tank it was about 3/4'' and every time I put my hand in or cleaned it I got water all over.

The only reason for choosing Oceanic vs. Miracles was simply price and convienence. This tank costed me less than my 30G and I didn't have to drive 2 hours to pick it up (remember that Dan? haha). Miracles is #1 though, jealous of your setup! :D

Jon, where'd you get the Illuminata. I did a search and can't find them. They don't have them listed on the Oceanic site.

Not a lot to update today, but the stand is now fully assembled. I went with a medium oak finish to match the rest of my bedroom furniture. The interior is completely lined in a waterproof bathroom material and caulked in case of a sump leak. Again I want to thank Joe's Wood Works for making such a beautiful piece of furniture for me!

I'm very excited to get this thing up and running, hopefully in the next week or two! :D

PS- I've been going back/fourth trying to decide what skimmer I'm going to run. I finally decided on the Octopus NW-150. It's rated for almost double the system volume (~75g) and has an awesome reputation all over the forum so I think it'll be perfect for me. :)

That is one nice cabinet! Wish I knew someone out my way that could do workmanship like that. Very nice work. Congrats Jon.

Cali - Stand looks great; can't wait to see the system up and running. I have the Octopus NW-150 on my 90 gallon and really like it, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Keep us posted. - Mark

stand looks great, your frame looks very lean, unlike mines the frame came out like it would support a tank -way overdone. i hope my finish comes out like your white, nice and shiney.

I run the nw-150 on my 60 gal. I think it works great, but no instructions so no one really seems to knows what water depth to put it in. 6"-10" is what is usually used.

Good luck with the new tank!

Thanks for all of the compliments on the stand... it came out even nicer than I expected.

I've had experience with the Octo's and IMO not many others in the price range compare. I'm going to run the NW-150 in about 9'' of constant water which I believe is around the sweet spot.

The next step is to finish the plumbing this week, throw some new bulbs in the fixture and get this thing running. Will update soon, thanks!

That skimmer will run nicely in 9" of water. I've had one in service for a few years now.

Everything's looking great!
