Joint Nov. meeting.... MENU IDEAS ?

The only problem I see not going with pot-luck is that it will be a lot of work for 2 or 3 people. Have you spoken to anyone from our club about this already Dave? I only know of one "chef" in our club but I'm not even sure that he will be coming OR if he would even want to take this on. Again, if you want to go this route that's great. I'm just concerned that you won't have any help. LOL.

Pizza always works too btw. =)

edit....Dave I just PM'd you back. Thanks.

Tom,

Its dave's passion to cook, and a good cook he is at that, I think he just wants to do what he loves and treat everyone to a great meal :)

I'm game with whatever way it goes but I "think" thats why dave's pushing for the cook event :) (I could be wrong though)

:p

PS: did you hook up that vortech you won at macna? :)

I'm very cool with that Keith. I love to eat so I get along just swell with anyone who loves to cook! =) Just concerned about overburdening someone.

Have yet to hook up the vortech. Been thinking about changing my tank over and am still in the unsure phase (for about three years now..LOL). One of these days I'll have to hook up it just to play around with it.

How about you....running the Euro-Reef?!

How about going with the chicken cutlet with various sauces idea for the main entree and pot-luck'ing the rest of the food?

No euro reef yet LOL, I got it out the box, I modded some pvc up to run it out of sump , but my other skimmer has been pulling coffee grinds so I dont wanna replace it yet :p

I hear ya with overburdening dave, there's alot of hungry people to feed :D

I'll see you and the crew next month :)

LOL... I've done banquets for 400.... I doubt ~60 will be "over burdening" LMAO...

Plus POTLUCK would requite a huge amout of people to show up at the same time, and eat at the sametime, and try having 30 casserole dishes to go in a 2 x 2 x 2 square oven at the same time..... LOL.. just ain't gunnah happen.

Dave, it sounds like you'd rather cook outright, if even by yourself, than any other option. Is that right? If so, we can all stop trying to unburden you. ;)

I would volunteer to help Dave out in the kitchen. Yes, i have professional experience, has been awhile. I also enjoy cooking from time to time. I usually prefer to be the one to cook in the house.

Plus the "pizza" idea would be ungodly expensive for Linda to cover for 60 people... if we collected 5.00 a head as we usualy do when it comes to pizza time in large meetings, we could feed ourselves for a week on a buffet of chicken and pasta and veggies :D

I'm thinking this is the way to go.... but first we'd need to find out how many people are going....

No offense but because this is a JOINT meeting .....how about we get some of input from the HVRK group

Okay, typically for our meetings the host decides on the menu which can range from a full blown meal with a bunch of sides usually provided by different members, pot luck, pizza or just chips & dips and/or cheese & crackers. Our monthly gatherings over the past year have drawn anywhere from 15 to 40+ attendees and all of the above have always sufficed. Nobody has gone home hungry from a meet. =)

At this point we will go with whatever you guys decide to do. If Dave wants to do up a menu with or without help from CDMAS/HVRK folks then that's cool. I'd say just be sure to save receipts so that the clubs can foot the bill for whatever you buy.
Same deal if we were to take the easy road and just get some pizzas. My first guess is that a dozen or fifteen or so pies would be plenty and again the clubs should pay the cost.

If you are definitely running with this Dave then please feel free to post on our hvreef.org boards if you want to seek assistance from any of our members. Again, up to you. You guys make the call on the food and then just let us know how we can help.

Maybe Linda should chime in since she's hosting?

Also, FWIW, on average I'd say that this will be a longer drive for our members (90 minutes+ for most) so at this point I'm not sure what to expect with attendance, especially considering that our October meet last weekend was our lowest attended of the year. Within a week we should start to get a feel for how many will be there.

Thanks....Tom Z...HVRK VP-PR

I like cooking, and hate meat, so I'm gonna bring something
:)-
Here are the options that you can chose from to fit with your menu plans.

Pad Thai- which would be 2 large wok fulls (and with other food will go along way especially as people will be afraid to eat a little tofu)

or A did with bread and veggies. Would probalby make baba ganjoush, which is an eggplant dip. and/or a hummus.

or- I can really put some work into it and make a large amount of veggie sushi rolls or vietnamese fresh spring rolls (not fried) with a peanut sauce.

Just let me know.

I'm sure there are some members who could whip up some tasty desserts as well.
