please send him well wishes and frags to restart he lost everything, his power went out while he was out of town sending an unfortunate set of events in motion. the gfi tripped upon the power going back on and some stuff didnt restart, his aqua lifter didnt pull suction on his hob overflow, the sump ran dry and his ato hooked up to his ro system stuck on because all the water put in the sump went to the DT and didnt have anywhere to go other then the floor because the overflow wasnt working, and the entire system went to fresh water with the ro stuck on and 50 gal water went on the floor. those of us that had their tank crash know how this feels. i wasnt watching his tank, but i ended up helping, i got the salinity in check, pulled the gfi out of the system, restarted the overflow, and put a pillow case of carbon in, but he is in for a long road to fixing the tank.

Johnny that sucks :( I have several of your corals, and they are growing slowly but surely. Let me know when you are ready to take some frags back.

thanks everyone! it was definitely the worst news to hear on the phone. I'm mostly bummed about my domino and midnight clownfish.

I've got a few things to send your way... some nuclear greens and some shrooms. Let me know when you're back in town. The paly grandis floated off somewhere that I can't find it unfortunately...

Johnny I have some small Staghorn, several different paly's, green and some pink zoa's and a purple monti frag I just started from the one you gave me. Let me know what you need.

Hey Johnny - We don't have anything fancy but we've got some pretty Rhodactis, Xenia, frogspawn, brown polyps, and GSP that we can share. Let us know when you are ready.

Our weekend project is to get our GFI figured out because after a power outage, it doesn't come back on automatically either...

What kind of GFIs are you guys using that they don't come back on when the power goes out? Are you using GFI outlets, or the extension cords with GFIs built in? There are two types -- OSHA approved, and non-OSHA approved. The OSHA approved ones will not turn back on if the power goes out (or if it even flickers). For aquarium stuff, you are better off buying the non-OSHA approved GFI, so that power outages won't cause a disaster.

we bought the portable GFCI that plugs into any outlet at Home Depot, similar to built in to an ext cord type. It will not restart without hitting the reset button if power goes out

I am replacing it with a wall mounted GFCI that requires no reset to power back on
I am mounting the GFCI in an outdoor outlet box with a plug wire to plug into my wall outlet because I cant get to the outlet to actually install it in the wall behind the tank

biffer - where do you find those? I'm pretty sure all of mine are the OSHA approved variety.

Home Depot and Lowe's... Any hardware store will carry them.

Exactly what SillyGoose said. The portable ones (extension cord types) are all OSHA approved. Those will not restart in the event of a power outage.

If you buy the in-wall types, they will restart if the power goes out, and you can install one in about 5 minutes in any outlet. I replaced all the standard outlets that my aquarium equipment is plugged into with GFCI outlets. I also hooked them all up to one wall switch next to the tank that will trip the GFCI and turn everything off immediately if I need to do an emergency shut down for some reason. This was not intentional, as flipping that one particular switch (which controls one of the outlets my fish stuff is plugged into) overloads the circuit (but none of the other switches do), but it has turned out to be beneficial that it ended up that way.

Thanks everyone for those offers, it means a lot to hear it from you guys. I won't be back until school starts in mid august. When I'm back ill start the set up again. I be happy to pay for those frags.
