joyfish fish store review

Hey guys I went to the new fish store in Petaluma this weekend. They have been open a week at the location off Payran. They are going to be a nice store, largest in Sonoma county by far and maybe largest in Bay Area. They have several rooms with supplies, pond stuff, Kio, tanks, frozen food (did not see reef nutrition or Rods food), and they have a huge room for fish. The fish room has 20 foot ceilings and is well vented so you don't get that fish smell when you walk in. It looks like they will have more salt then fresh water fish! They just finished cycling their tanks and said they should have some new fish in soon. They have 2 big frag tanks and plan to add more. Also they have RO at the back of the store with a roll up door so you can just pull your truck or car up load up and take off.
I told them about the club and that we would like to have a meeting at the store sometime when they get it up and going. They said they would love to host us and I told them to go on RC and contact Ken. It is nice to have a store in Petaluma. I'm excited to see this place up and running. Check it out sometime, but if you want to see all the coral and fish I'd wait a few more weeks.

OH also check out the counter when you walk in, they built it themselves. Looks like a pro, they build stand and canopy's too. I bought some frozen mysis cubes for $4.50 I think, good price!

Check it out guys

Cool Shane. Thanks for visiting them and the review. I'm going to have to go introduce myself.

So is it Joyfish or Jo-fish or what? The website is jo-fish.com

If this place can rival aquarium showroom in San Jose then I'm missing out. Their store is 20,000 sqft... How big is this store?

Thank you guys for the interest in our efforts. We're trying hard to create a store to cater to the serious fish and reef keeper. We have been around for a long time as a service company and after working in conjuntion with other stores have an idea of what we feel will and will not work. That being said everyone at Jofish A.S.C.is receptive to input and new ideas. We would love to have you experienced reef keepers come and give your input while we are still in process, as to guide our efforts in the direction u would like to see us evolve.

Thanks Niblit,

I just came by to check out and see what is going on and I second Shanes post. Very good layout and the people I met were very receptive to our club and ideas. They said they were going to get fish in the next couple of weeks so I am very excited to see what comes in. As a Petaluman this may give me a second option for quality fish and corals. I talked up the club this site and Kens' macro photography skills so hopefully we can build a good paternership soon.

Good luck Jo-fish and I am waiting patiently for the next couple of weeks....Craig.

With the new store and the motivation, we should come up with a list of goods that they should carry that other stores don't and here is my short list :D

pellets GFO, Dolomite, magnesium or mag flake, dow flake, elos, lamotte test kits, etc. I am sure I'll come up with more latter

Anybody want to add to the list ? :D

Here is my request:

plumbing supplies- bulkheads, true-union ball valves, PVC flex, RODI fittings, RODI filters, all reef related, you have to wait a few days to get this stuff from an on line source so it can be frustrating during a build or changing something out.
good food selection-rods food, reef nutrition, coral frenzy

Test kits- API, I don't buy then all the time but nice to have in the area for when i run out

Good selection of fish and coral at good prices with clean water and with some uncommon stuff.

The biggest thing for me right now is price; I work in the city so I get my salt (coral life) for $34 a tub. In the area it is $45 plus. I don't mind paying a bit more to support local but not 30%-50% more.

Something I didnโ€™t see was the โ€œStore tankโ€ Iโ€™m guessing that is coming with time

BTW Iโ€™d say maybe 3,500 sqft storeโ€ฆ.but that is a guess. But still largest in North Bay.

BTW: wish i could edit the tread title to Jofish A.S.C anyone know how? that is what i get for guessing

What time do you close on Saturday? We'd (Reef Nutrition) love to stop by on our way back from the meeting :)

i am taking notes as we speak guys.we do lots of custom commercial jobs so i have or can get in short order any plumbing stuff u need and will start looking into the drygoods u desire

Checked out the store today since I had to work. Nice, clean lay out. Not much in the way of livestock but was told by the owner/employee that they are getting a shipment on Wednesday. Looks promising.

Solitaryensis, you're most welcome to join our club. We just had a great meeting at Tom's house last weekend where Randy Reed from Reef Nutrition came and gave a great talk about reef foods. We have a raffle and frag swap each month and there are no dues!
