JR Aquatics 180 Gallon Nano Reef

Whoa... The tank has really grown in since the last time i checked. Everything looks really clean and healthy. Your Spotted Tang is hands down the best looking tang on RC (to me at least). What is their max size? And how's the skimmer doing?

Thanks man. Still love the skimmer, the performance I get from it is amazing.

Here is a couple of resent shots of the head of foam it produces within a half hour after cleaning the cup.

That collection cup looks really nasty!! I wouldn't want to be near that skimmer when you pop the top off.
And all that in 1/2 an hour?Sweet... i really do want to get myself a Reeflo200 but i read that the Dart draws a lot more power compared to the pumps on the BK. That's the only thing holding me back from purchasing one this very instant!!

It had a bit of stuff to pull out since I spent over 2 hours scraping the glass prior to cleaning the skimmer. This thing seems to pull everything that enters the skimmer out. There will always be skimmer pumps that use less electricity and perform but I know if something happens to the dart it is very easy for me to get replacement parts fast. There are many things I like about the skimmer so a measly 105watts is easily overlooked when I see the performance I get from it. BKs are great skimmers too. IMO you will be happy with any of the higher end skimmers on the market today.

105watts?? I was under the impression it was closer to 150 or something. The Dart that runs the skimmer is a regular Dart right? Not the Dart Gold? I heard that the Gold is much more efficient and draws less power. Any truth to that?

The pumps are under back pressure with the skimmer body attached and has a pin wheel instead of a paddle wheel. They now come with Baldor motors which are altogether better pumps. But on the 200 you should get anywhere from 92-105watts.

That's not as much as i thought it would draw. Guess i will look into the Reeflo after all. Only problem is i can't find a local dealer here in Malaysia.

The more i look at your Tang the more i want one for myself. Probably won't be possible considering their adult size. Another fish that has to be consigned to the "daydream" files.

I ended up being one of the unlucky ones. I will be going fishing tonight to remove my Blackspot Angel (swallowtail). He started ripping apart one of my brains that I have had since I returned into the hobby and could possibly be my oldest coral. So needless to say, he has to go.

Good luck catching that fish mate. It's never an easy thing to do in a mature reef.

If you do get him, please share how you managed to nab him.

Thanks, I will need it. I tried for a couple hours last night. I almost had her last night by net. Worst comes to worst, I make a few extra frags.:D

I've got two huge nets. We'll get her tomorrow. My nets have never failed me. ;)

Cool. We'll be going fishing tonight. I tried last night for 10 min. and got aggravated and called it quits. I wish I could keep him in my display since it is one of my favorite fish but that coral is one of my favs. too. Well to the sump he goes till I find him a new home.

tagging along for now looking great need to finish reading and i don't want to loose it. I just got a 180 upgrading from a 34g will be watching this closely.

I am also trying to figure out where to go skimmer wise, i have seen some used orca 250's for sale but i am not sure if that would be total overkill for a 180g mixed reef. Do you know what the AO smith wattage runs for the reeflo 250 as i am sure the used ones are running the old pumps.

I also picked up 3 used MP40w's but after seeing your tank i may have 1 to many.

I was considering only running a kalk reactor to keep it more simple any thought?

Once again great looking tank hopefully i can get there one day but i need to get water in the tank first.
