JR Aquatics 180 Gallon Nano Reef

Thats one sweet skimmer. Is it as tall as the Reeflo was? Maybe its just the way Im looking at the picture but the new Pro looks shorter and maybe a little fatter to me. Definately looks like some quality craftsmanship :)

Thanks Jim.

The skimmer has an askoll 1500 with custom volute and pin wheel. The Hurricone is shorter than the Reeflo 200 pro but is 2" wider than the Reeflo 200. The craftsman ship is spot on especially in the professionally machined volute and pin wheel.

Update. I have seen some slight RTN to some of my fav. colonies due to a fast drop of alk due to my CO2 running out and not catching it in time. So once again alk has put a strain/kink in my reef.

On a brighter note I will be a proud owner on the real cone club. After speaking with Victor at ATB today I decided to order an ATB Econo 840 for my tank. I have always been fascinated with ATB cone design, the great reviews from ATB owners of their performance and craftsmanship.

Right now I only have the Hurricone Cat2 Ext., Octo Extreme 160 and the Reeflo 200 Pro which is pending sale. So after the Reeflo is sold, I really will only have 3 skimmers the Hurricone, Octopus Extreme and the ATB.:D

The Extreme will be removed from the system entirely. The New ATB will be placed in the sump and may become the main skimmer for my reef if everything works out as expected.

Wow, your growth is amazing...mine seems very slow in comparison. Love that your aquascape is holding its shape and that you are keeping the background scraped clean. Are you going with the ATB Econo 1050? Dual Sicces or a laguna?

Nope, I am going with the Econo 840, the smaller singe pump cone. I really want to push one of these skimmers to the limits. I may be surprised to see that the ATB may just handle my system just fine. The Econo with the airstar 1500 would have been really sweet but I don't have room in my sump to get anything any larger in there.

But we will see how this goes. How's your Cone doing.

JR

I thought you were going with the CAT-2 External on your system for the future?

Why the change?

What can I say, I like to try new things and I have always wanted to try an ATB since they became available in the US. I am going to continue to run the Hurricone along with the ATB for the time being but may take the CAT 2 off line till I upgrade to a larger tank, which I hope is sooner that later.

Do you feel the CAT 2 is overkill on your tank?

I feel my tank is slightly undersized for the CAT 2 at this time. It works just fine and does a great job on my tank but would really shine with a larger bioload. I find the CAT 2 External is like/comparable to running a Reeflo 250 on my system.

Its rocking along...I'm at 23 fish I think (6 big boys), and feeding 5-6x day. I'm glad I got the L, the medium might have done it, but now I have absolutely no worries. Tested my phosphates on a Hanna and they came in at .01. Haven't tested nitrates, but usually I just look at my fish and corals, and they are telling me those are fine too :)

I popped in on your build thread and your tank seems to be doing good as well. Have you noticed a difference in your system since you switched skimmers?

My ATB is breaking in nicely. Skimmate is now becoming thick and dark. This really is a great skimmer and has already surpassed my expectations.

Now if I can only get my influent valve from clogging I will be in good shape.
