JR Aquatics 180 Gallon Nano Reef

I have tried and tested the 20k Reeflux. I currently run a 20k in the center reflector along side two 12k Reeflux. I will be going all 20k Reeflux when my bulbs are due for a change.

What are your opinions on the 20K reeflux so far? Does it really bring out the color in your corals? Is there a big difference in brightness or intensity between the 12K and 20K?

To me it looks like a 14k or 15k or how I like describing the look of the Reeflux 20k as a 12k with VHO actinics. It is very bright compared to other 14, 15 and 20k spectrum bulbs. If your looking for a darker radium look (underdriven Radium) then you would most likely be disappointed. Is there a huge difference between the 12k and 20k Reeflux, not really, besides the little extra blue and greater par #s.

Here are some new sad update shots of my tank. A month ago I noticed bite marks and eggs on the underside of some of my acros. Upon suspicion I inspected and realized I had AEFW. I couldn't believe it as I treat everything that goes in and for the majority going out of my tank with interceptor and TMPC. I have since fragged a majority of my large colonies to make treating and eradication easier. I have thrown out about a 5gal bucket of acros in the process. As the days progress I think I may win the battle as I have not seen any egg sacks or worms lately upon dipping and blasting. It is very depressing to look back on what the tank looked like only months ago but I have to look forward to what it will look like a few months from now.

My melanarus wrasse does eat them when he wants to. He defiantly goes after them when I blow off the corals. The twin spot hog also goes after them but since added a sixline and yellow coris to help control the numbers while I dip to hopefully eradicate them. I am not sure where they came from but must have come as eggs on a frag. I always dip everything going in and always snip off any bases and only place the coral in the system. It is what it is, and no matter how much control you think you have on a system, things like this can still happen. I think AEFW are going to be more and more popular in the upcoming years as most hobbiest I know don't dip anything that goes in their systems.

Sorry to hear Jeremy. I went through the same gig awhile back. I used to dipeverything and QT'd "most" of my corals. Since there is no way to kill their eggs, we have to keep a QT tank and if then, we still take a risk. Good luck.

Thanks Mark. Did you over come the AEFW? Man I wish I had redbugs instead.

Yep, They are beatable, but it depends at what length you are willing to go to. I did the full QT for 6 weeks. That is the only known way to break the life cycle. There are plnty of people that just continue to baste them to manage their population.

I plan on upgrading soon so I may be able to quarantine them in there current environment. I also chopped and threw away all the large colonies to make it easier to get to the corals and to keep an eye on them. I do want them out for good though but I would really be kicking my self if I went to extreme measures only to get them all over again. I really hope someone comes up with an in tank cure for these pests. They sure would make a fortune.

Sorry to hear the bad news. :( Wish I could help. Please keep us posted on your AEFW treatment and eradication.

Thanks guys. Montis Nudis are no fun either. I had them once that seemed to go through the dipping process (eggs) and threw out all my montis. That is when I only started keeping frags of the frags and no bases. I feel for you Nick.

I wish you the best on the AEFW problem Jeremy.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around AEFW.

Some reefers think it's no big deal, they blast their corals with a turkey baster or powerhead once per week, and add wrasses to keep them under control.

Other reefers practically break down their entire tanks and QT their acros to fight it.

Thanks, I am right in between. I know if I didn't dip everything that went into my tank I would rip out all SPS and take the agressive approach but since I did dip everything I sorta see it as a waste of livestock and time as I could easily get them again.

Hang in there JR. I'm sorry to hear about your AEFW war. I've got some in my tank as well.

Thanks again Marc about your advice on how to battle them. I thought I had them under control till this morning when I saw a small egg cluster under one of my tables. Tonight I will have to bring out the artillery of the suction wand/scraper and go at them and do my nightly basting. Joy, joy.

Sorry to hear about that Jeremy...that sucks!!

Mark went through his 6 weeks qt and his tank has now bounce back better than before...

Wow sorry about the AEFW does dipping with luguls solution get them all out or could they be in cracks? I only have one Acopora but my husband has alot...
