jrpdriver's Three-o-Three build

You've got a great set-up here, I'm learning a lot just by seeing how you hooked up everything. Everything is so neat and organized - great job!
The tank is beautiful, and the corals look great.

This build is looking great! Seems like you have thought of everything. Definitely going into the RC bookmarks folder as I begin to plan out my 210. Thanks for all the ideas!

Thanks for the compliment! there are still some things I am changing and some things I wish I would have done differently but overall I am happy with the result! Good luck with your build

Hey Jason,

I didn't see if you talked about your T5's. Your color looks great. I can't remember what combination of bulbs you are using? Do you use the ATI Procolor at all?

Thanks, Your tank looks great! Is the Aqua Sun a daylight bulb?

Thanks!. yeah, it is a 10k bulb made by ULV

Time for an update

I had a huge bacterial bloom that was caused by dosing Seachem Reef Calcium, everything browned out and looked horrible for about a week, no polyp extension what so ever. After 6 water changes and 2 gallons of carbon everything recovered and is starting to get its color back. I have recently changed some bulbs to get more of a blue look and upgraded my skimmer. here's some recent shots

Here's the new Bubble King Deluxe 300 in action, by far the best skimmer I have ever owned, worth its weight in gold!

Wow, this is a great tank!!

Love those ventralis anthias! How did you get them acclimated to your lighting and eating? Do they only eat frozen? I see that they're also in with potentially aggressive fish. Any problems with them harrasing the anthias at first? Were they introduced after the purple and yellow tangs? Looks like they were introduced after the lyretails according to your pics.

Keep up the good work. Love the look of your hood/stand. Hmmm, I may have to start thinking about T5's with all of these SPS tanks!!

Sorry for so many questions!

How did you come to this conclusion? I use Seachem Reef Calcium in my tank and have never had a bacterial bloom, or browning out of any corals.

After several discussions in the chemistry forum and several discusions with fellow reefers and manufacturers outside of Reef Central.

Seachem is glucose based, which is fine in small amounts, but when doesed heavily it fuels bacteria growth. Normal calcium can be dosed heavily as long as you don't increase the calcium in your tank over 100ppt per day. When dosing enough Seachem to significantley raise the calcium level in 450g system, it was essentially the same result as overdosing sugar or vodka.

Thanks for the kind words! I think part of the reason that the Ventralis are doing so well is the size of the tank and the amount of rockwork that they had to take shelter in. The other fish not bothering them could also be due to the size of the tank. In all reality I probobly just got lucky too. They are the last fish I introduced, only becasue this was the first time I have ever seen them available and I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. I put them in the tank with the lights out and then fed 4-5 times a day until they started to eat. Now they are out all the time and eat anything I put in the tank.
