Yes - the RSM display is 29g - 5 gallons in the back compartment. No different than allowing a 30g tank with a 100g sump/refugium. It's what you've done with a limited volume of water - not what you can't see behind or under the tank. A 40g display seems a bit large to consider a nano - but, JMO.

Coral: Mostly LPS, Zoas, Mushrooms and Rics.

3rd chamber: Stealth heater, Osmolator, temp probe, grounding probe, mini-jet 404 return pump.

Circulation: 1 Koralia1 custom fitted into rock work, 1 Koralia Nano fitted to rock and false wall.

Energy Management: Sylvania Industrial Digital timers with satellite time correction.

Clayton your tank is the nicest one ive seen so far in this thread!

Im still unclear on the entry rules...Is the 30 gal rule...Tank Display
only or total water volume (including sump and refugium) ????
 
Thanks Reef Aquatics! That makes me feel better after loosing! :( LOL

I think its 30 gallons or less in display volume this month. It changes all the time.
