Junior's Reef

same standard 1/2" glass. Several people noted that the glass on the new aquarium is probably a slightly different tint than the previous aquarium.

Hey Gary,
I realize this is local reef forum for you guys....but I'm kinda outta the loop here...

I'm kinda inferring that the reason for the tank change was because the last one sprung a leak? Did the manufacturer step up and make things right, or did you need to buy a new tank?

Who is the new tank made by?

It looks good regardless.

Nick

hi again, maxx :wavehand:

Good to see you made the jump to the new thread!

Perfecto worked with me to make things right. I've used them for years (decades, actually) and never had problems with them.

Shhh...I'm stalking you....:spin2:

Glad to hear that Gary. Lately all that seems to be discussed is horror stories of poor customer service from larger companies.

Regardless, the new tank looks just as gorgeous as the last...

I'm still jealous...

Nick

Gary the tank looks great. Emperors are my favorite fish, yours is a beuty. Any concerns/thoughts about him getting too large for the tank and becoming aggressive towards your other fish?

Hey Gary...did we ever find out the change in glass color from Perfecto? Sorry, took a breather and slightly out of the loop...trying to get back up to speed.

I haven't inquired about the glass yet.
Junior isn't aggressive- my Powder Blue Tang is easily the most aggressive fish in the aquarium. I might be wrong but I think Junior is done growing.

Hi Gary,

I just spent the last couple of hours reading through the entire "new canvas" thread and now this one. What a great aquarium and a very informative read. The video clip at the end of the last thread was a real treat after reading through all 36 pages!

I am in the early planning stages of a similar size tank and will take your lessons into consideration, especially the return lines and flow pattern. Unfortunately I do not have a basement and will have to cram everything under the tank. Coupla questions:

Do you wish you had gone wider than 24"?

Has the direct/indirect sunlight shining on the tank caused any problems? (other than the reflections?)

Thanks,
Robert

thanks for the kind words, Robert.

my original desire was to have a 72" x 30" x 30" aquarium in this house but a 72" long x 36" wide x 30" high would have been ideal, too :)

if you're planning to cram everything in your aquarium stand you might definitely consider the larger footprint ;)

the only problem with sunlight is that I can't get enough of it into this aquarium. Due to the location of this aquarium in relation to the windows in our house direct sunlight strikes the aquarium for only a few weeks each year. The rest of the year it receives indirect sunlight.
Back in our previous house we installed a skylight above the aquarium and it really helped to light it up more.

good news!

Say Gary, could I get you to tell that to my wife? Somehow I'm having a hard time convincing her why I really need to take up more of the family room and the hallway with my proposed new tank!

Thanks and congrats on the tank. Junior is lucky to have such a great dad!
