large Pocillopora

large Pocillopora

Nice tight skeletal growth changed to a wider growth habit when I moved the colony to a lower position with less flow. The move allowed some Majano anemones to settle on the colony. (Recall that I delibrately introduced Majano into my aquarium.)
Fast forward to this morning's pic where you can see Majano on the way out courtesy of butterflyfish.
This coral was originally flat/globe shaped and it's getting sculpted into something else. Approximate length at widest point 2ft. Montipora has overgrown it at the far side.

Gary great pictures. But every photo looks like the little guy is hunting the corals ;). Still no issues with him and the corals?

semilarvatus definitely picks at coral polyps!

Always has. Mostly Pocillopora. Sometimes Montipora. Occasionally Acropora. GSPs. Never saw it go after Euphyllia. The cleaning magnet is clipping SPS growing closer to the glass so the corals must be gaining mass. Knock on wood- life is good

Great Tank, my favorite tank ever. excellent job Gary, your tank is the inspiration for my new tank build that started 8 months ago. I learned a lot from your thread and your reefing journey for all these years.

To be honest i have been considering to add one or two butterflies and looks like the semilarvatus is one candidate. magnificent fish.

Isn't the raccoon a anemone and coral killer?

Not an easy question to answer simply yet remain accurate.
Yes and no :)

Corals and corallivores (coral eating animals) exist together in the ocean.
The trick is to get them to thrive and grow along side each other in a glass box (ie: microcosm).

I wish I had Joe Yaiullo's (RC member justjoe) 20k to play with :)

That would be a great issue to have
