Junior's Reef

New development of late: Junior likes to have his back scratched.
It's crazy.

He will rise to the surface and stick his dorsal fin and posterior out of the water.
At first, I wondered what was going on.
The first time I tried to "pet" him he swam away.
He's warmed up to being touched since then.
Yesterday he allowed one of my friends to stroke him for some time.

It's been a long time since I've been so amazed at something in my reef aquarium!

Another recent development is the splashing. I used to have a hippo tang that did this. Somebody is splashing all over the place. I believe it's to get attention and I'm sure it's the Angelfish.

I never know what to expect!
I've been posting on RC lately using my cell phone.
(Thanks Time Warner -you stink!)
Anyways, junior has recently developed a bad habit of splashing outside the aquarium. He really creates a BIG mess.
He's definitely showing signs of aging.

Fish splashes sound like they could get annoying. I was joking about expecting anything, but if he sticks his head out of the water and a starts to drool when he sees it's feeding time you might want to change his food...

How old is Junior?
good question.

The fish was in my aquarium for 6.5 years.
Here's what he looked like when introduced (I'm not sure how old here)

Now an update: Junior passed away. He had started acting odd... wanting his back scratched and splashing outside the aquarium. He stopped eating properly. General lethargy. I knew it was coming. I'm not really big on posting stuff like this but I do like to chronicle things for future reference.

Bummer. :(

You and he had a great run. I'm still amazed you were able to pull off an imperator for that many years and still keep all of those beautiful corals.

RIP Junior.

Loosing a fish to old age never makes me sad, youd miss it, but you gave it a good life and seems like he became your pal. [with the back massages] what else can a fish keeper or a fish ask for.
