I thought I'd join Recty in posting some astro images. I took this early Saturday morning though my 11" telescope (C11 2x barlow / atmospheric dispersion corrector / asi 224mc). Conditions degraded so this is the best of the much from the session. The great red spot is just barely rotating into the field of view.

To get a good picture of Jupiter with a microscope, you better have access to your own private shuttle and a large supply of oxygen.

You won't see anything like this with the naked eye. This is most likely a long exposure shot, meaning you will need an equatorial mount telescope with a stepper motor control, and a good one. I have a 10 inch discovery telescope. At best you are going to get about 50 power per inch of mirror before you start getting major distortion so the bigger the mirror, the more power you can get clearly, but the more suceptible you are to light polution. Larger telescopes see better but require darker skies to prevent the picture from being washed out. I haven't used my scope in several years. I might have to get it out soon.

My sky watcher dobsonian is smaller(10"), but I still get some decent pictures.. I would love to get back into it with this scope, but with the tank and life, it's hard to get out there at night. Let alone dedicate funds and time to things needed to take really nice pictures like OP.. But thats a sweet picture of Jupiter!

And for reasonable scopes, try Orion(www.telescope.com) or sky watcher(www.skywatcherusa.com)..

But here are some pics I took of the moon a few months ago with only the stock scope and eyepieces..
