Just a few questions... pictures included!

I just recently bought a reef tank setup with a pair of clownfish and now I have a few questions.

Firstly, I just noticed my female clownfishes poop was white and stringy. I have heard that is a sign of internal bacteria. The person who I bought the clownfish from has the pair for over 7 years but only fed them twice a week. So today I started with pellets and fed the pair about 7 times today. Tomorrow I will start with mysis and blood worms and pellets inbetween. Just wondering if that is a good idea?

Lastly, I was looking at the tank tonight, after the lights are off, and noticed the female all snuggled in a small carpet anemone while the male is on the other side of the tank by itself? The carpet is only about 2 inches in diameter and the female fits perfectly in there. Just wondering if the female might have drove the male away? They usually swim all day in the open and I have yet to see them in the anemone since I got them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

7 times a day is way too much(I know, you're trying to make up for the underfeeding, but don't over do it)
Once a day is fine, and skipping now and then is OK to.
Many females don't allow the male into their nem, you may get lucky as nem gets bigger and she may allow it.

Well everytime I walk over to the tank I throw in maybe 5 pellets. Not like a full meal but little appatizers though. lol

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

Does anyone else have any suggestions with the female who has the stringy poop besides quarentine?

Thanks again

I think most people feed once or twice a day max. They can actually go for a week or two and still be fine. Especially if you have a lot of pods in your tank. My female tomato hogs the BTA as well, but slowly allowing the male to sleep closer and closer. I'm sure they'll both be in there when your nem gets large enough. It's a little one the small side as it is.

If this is your 18g, over feeding will do more harm than good.

No it's a 75g w/40g sump and octopus 200.

The anemone came with the tank.

Thanks again

ps any recommendations for the white stringy poop?

White stringy poop can be an indication of internal parasites of some sort. Before you feed your clowns, soak the pellets in some garlic gaurd. Garlic gaurd helps the immune system. I know there are foods that can also kill internal parasites but you would probably have to order those online.

As for your blue Haddoni, it is really to small for your female clown that's hosting. A good rule of thumb like previously mentioned is to have the anemone in diameter at least three times the size of the clownfish. This way the anemone will not be as easily overwhelmed by the presence of the clownfish.
