well, i got a mantis (florida, dark blue/green, white meral spots, lots of red!!!)
now, for feeding, i found the stuff at walmart called 'pacific giant seafood combination' it has octopus, cuttlefish, squid, mussels, and shrimp.. (for 4 bucks per lb, i found it a good deal in northern mn) would that be a good diet?... he had some cuttlefish this morning, and loved it!!!
hes about 1 1/2 inches long... just a little sweety. i'm kinda assuming hes a Neogonodactylus wennerae, but he is extremely dark blue/green... when i get pics, they'll be posted.
How often does this spp. molt? how often/much should i feed him?
hes also going to be my behavioral experiment... i'm going to try to find out if he associates colors with food (red=shrimp, blue=octo, stuff like that) its for class (animal behavior, believe it or not :eek1:
he has a nice peice of lr that he likes to play in... hes just darlin... and he hasn't tried to take the lives of my hermit or snail yet.... i feel blessed!!!
also, i was thinking (don't completely shoot me) of getting a 'little fast fish' to put in with him... any suggestions? (i like damsels, but i think they get too big for a ten gallon) preferably, a little fast fish that likes meaty food, now that i have lots of seafood for him!!!

At this size, if well fed, Neogonodactylus wennerae will molt every 3 months or so. Don't expect it to eat a two or three days before the molt and a week after. This makes conditioning experiements a challenge since ever couple of months for over a week the animal rejects food.

thats ok, i only need him for a month or so....
if that... all i need to do is see if he can be trained... if not, my teacher says that its ok, you learn from things not happening too, and she would understand him going into molt...
(I could cheat.... I could just do what i was going to do first and 'train' him to take food... I mentioned to her already that thats what i was going to do)
