Just a question... anemones

For those of you who have anemones... for clowns or whatever.

Don't other fish on occasion bump into it and die?

i have yet to be brave enough to add a nem to my tank. fish can get stung and there are also nems (like carpets) that are known fish eaters.

I have a Rose Bubble Tip, 2 black oscillaris clowns and a Valentini puffer in my tank and none of the fish, including the clowns much to my dismay, go near him. The Valentini pays him no mind. The only thing that pays attention to it is my Sexy shrimp, who decided to host it

Depends on the fish's health condition and species of anemone. Some anemones are more potent than others, BTA for example it pretty safe to touch and fish don't mind bumping at all, while carpets and condies can sting fish and kill them if they're not careful.

I have 10 BTAs in my tank, and they have only eaten fish I've fed to them after they died. Otherwise never lost a healthy fish to a Bta

I had a carpet for a year and it ate 2 fish and a cleaner shrimp. I gave it away, and now have had a bta for 6 months and it hasn't eaten anything.

Its 2am and I just got in at the parents and took a look at their tank and saw the carpet caught the clown tang.
In all fairness I think I must have spooked him when I put on the room light. Other than this occasion, I've never had an issue with losing fishes to nems.
So I came on here for advise on what to do. I will attempt to free the tang.

Again, it depends on the nem. Some nems are much more likely to be aggressive about catching fish than others. We have a RBT and a H. aurora. The H. aurora hosts our two clowns but neither nem has ever made a move to bother the other inhabitants of our tank.

agreed... depends on the nems. i haven't really had issues with fish getting eaten by bta's, sebaes, or lt's. i did catch a rock nem in the act of eating a small designer.

carpets... are a whole other ballgame. lol haddoni are reportedly much more likely to eat fish then gigs. my gigs have eaten filefish, gobies, and a small panther grouper. expensive meals, but man have they grown in size since! lol :)

i would not stick anything except clowns in with carpets unless you are willing to lose it.

Carpets, Haddoni and Gigantea, eat fish. I never keep Mertensii so I don't know. Other host anemones that eat fish is LTA but not likely at all. Other host anemones are safe for fish. It is possible that some one will post that this and that anemone will eat fish bot this is likely not a host anemone or it is something that is isolated to that person

so the nem ate that big fish? this is the real "amityville horror" man. i'm sorry for your loss.
The nem tried but wasn't able to eat the tang. It was after 2am and I didn't want the clown to die or the nem. So I took 2 Ehiem tongs and wrestle the clown free. It swam around afterwards, as if healthy, but the next morning he was dead, stuck to powerhead.

The nem is fine. Appears just the same as before. I have to figure out if and how to get him out.

I have had a condy and a few BTAs and none damaged other fish. The condy's sting is much more potent than the BTA, enough to irritate my fore arm, but it hosted a happy pair of Bicinctus clowns at one point and a tomato at another. I've heard this is non-standard, so please keep that in mind if anyone that reads this is 'nem shopping. Other fish would occasionally bump a tentacle, but none were snagged.
