Like the title says I just put in a pair of Mai-Tai clowns and a green BTA. This was on Monday. Monday night the anemone made its way near the top of the tank and opened up sometime yesterday evening and one of the clowns instantly took to it. About an hour later the other clown attempted to join in the fun and they battled it out for a while which I hear is normal. Lights went out at 10, this morning I couldn't see much other than they were no longer fighting. This afternoon the larger fish that "won" is laying in the anemone and swimming, doesn't look to bad. The other clown is now laying on my cleaning magnet, looks beat to hell. He's missing a chunk out of his tail and half of one of his side fins. They are no longer sparring, but how should I go about giving this clown a shot at living?

Thanks

Mai Tai is Maroon/Ocellaris hybrid, correct? It would help if size difference was substantial. How long have the clowns been together in the tank?

Clowns have been in my tank for about 4 days now. They are a maroon/ocellaris hybrid. Supposedly bonded.

Thanks

Your key word there is Supposedly, Actions speak louder than words and your clowns actions are speaking like two female clownfish. What do I have to gain telling you differently than the person who sold them to you? Nothing, they gained your money. Wake up.

? Never said you were wrong.... Was saying that the lfs sold them as a "pair". If you think I'll instantly believe 1 person on the internet I think you need to "wake up "

If they're both under 3" could be they've still both males given the genetics of premnas. Though if both are above that size with almost no size difference ... They might've both turned.
I guess you'll find out soon enough if you leave them together, with the wounded one in a breeding net . If you see absolutely no submissive shaking within a few days to from the supposed male then you probably should separate them.

Thanks. My nem moved and I couldn't find the 2nd clown this morning. Hope the nem didn't eat it....

Most likely the bta didn't eat him/her. It is either in hiding or it got too stressed out and died. Hopefully it is just hiding on you. Good luck with your clowns.

Thanks! Wife says they are together now so I guess they are OK atm. BTA on the other hand has relocated to behind a rock. Probably upset him with the water change yesterday....

sometimes clowns are pretty harsh to the BTA, specially small BTA that's new to the tank environment. so keep an eye out on that too. If the BTA becomes too stressed, you may need to remove the clowns or the BTA for awhile.

good luck!
