Very nice. Your camera work is exquisite!

Thanks everyone!! :-)

Any progression shots of frag growth? Would love to see those.

How do like the GHL Moonlights? Worth it? Pic?

Thanks again for the tips! :)

I LOVE the GHL moonlights. I have the programmed for the actual moon phases so when there is a full moon out the moonlights are pretty bright, and when there is a new moon it's pretty dark. I also have them programmed for lightening storms periodically. Okay, so it's mostly all gimicky but it amuses me :-) I do enjoy looking into the tank after lights out though and with just the moon lights.

Progress photos..

Here is a "Red Planet" that I got back last November. It didn't have much colour and didn't even look like a "Red Planet".

And one more.. I've had this Acropora Insignis since last November as well and it did NOTHING for months. It was a mostly brown twig with a purple tip.

Then, just in the past month it finally started to shoot out..

shoots at its base too!

Well you put to rest the argument I see people using of its so hard to take true to life pictures with LED. Your pictures look accurate yet amazing.

Great job.

Sorry Darryl, I don't use LEDs. I just have the GHL Led moon lights, not the GHL Mitras!

My tank is rockin' the old skool MH+T5 combo. :-)

Wow!!! That's some growth!! If I get even half that growth in the 5 months, I'll be happy :)

What's better is the way they've colored up. That's a lot of TLC. That Red planet looks insane! And I wish my blue stags would throw out shoots like that:(. I have a "Pink Lemonade" that's just brown with green tips and brown polyps. Any tips on placement for the PL (if it's really a pink lemonade :))?

Also, I notice a lot of blue cloves at the base of some frags. Any problems with them? I like the look of them, and tempted to let 'em run wild.

Lol, wanted to try out the GHL moonlights, just so that I could enjoy the tank after lights out. Ambient room lighting doesn't do much for me. Only problem is, I'll have to pick up 2 of them, wouldn't be so affordable now. Still, a thought for the future :)

I have my PL (that's what it was sold to me as but I can not guarantee its lineage at all) placed in the middle of my tank with moderate lighting and moderate flow. It seems to be happy there. So far there isn't a lot of "pink" in the PL but it's there if I shine a green LED light onto it at night time. Green LEDs tends to phosphoresce pinks and reds. It's a cool effect at night if you can find a green LED.

I've had my blue coves for as long as I've had the tank. They hitch hiked on live rock. In the four years that I've had them (proliferate) in this tank I've never felt the need to remove them. They have taken over exposed rock and butt up against Zoas, LPS and SPS but I have not noticed them sting any of the above corals. It's funny because when people see my clove tank they are amazed that I let them run so rampant LOL. A lot of people fear the cloves and despise them with a passion. I'm no expert but I wonder if there are in fact different types of blue/purple clove polyps and possibly a stinging variety? I've heard a lot of anecdotes suggesting that blue cloves stung and killed peoples corals. Again, 4 years of clove "infestation" in my tank and no stinging of any corals. I allow them free reign because I really like how they look on the rocks. During mid day they open up and extend their polyps allowing them to slightly flow in the current. It's cool :-) Further, if I need a patch cleared I simply take a tooth brush and brush away the cloves in an area. I find them very delicate this way and this has always worked out well for me.

insert foot in mouth. haha.

You definitely have the tyree pink lemonade. I have never seen a look a like come close.

yes, it looks exactly like my frag from you ;)

and I don't think pink lemonade has much pink in it (don't know why this name !), it is more yellow with green tint on new growth and highly exposed parts...
I have mine pretty high, have been told they love light...

ya, i kinda started to question it once it started to grow out as there was virtually no visible pink in it at all! haha. However, if you shine a green LED light on it at night time you will definitely see very subtle pinkish coralites as the green LED fluoresces them.

That settles it, the cloves can stay :). Nice to have a lil more blue in there anyways.

Your PL does look a lot like the pics online, like the real deal. Was questioning the lineage of mine, absolutely no guarantee. Maybe if it colors up, I'll know. Do you have it placed in high light/flow?

My LED's are DIY, and at the moment have about 15 Cree XPE Greens lying around. Just when I thought its time to stop tinkering..........there you go!

The polyps on the pink lemonade are supposed to be "pink". I would say mine are pink or at least pinkish. I just looked at it to confirm.

Wow is all I can say. May I ask how you have your Tunze 6105s set up?

Thanks! :-)

I have them both at the overflow end of my tank on either side of the tank. At first when I had them set up I would just have them on at full blast. The flow travels down the (long) sides of my tank, hit the opposite side and bounce back in the middle of the tank. Ultimately I didn't like this flow because it was very directional in the middle of the tank and was causing all my sps to grow in one direction only. After some tinkering I ended up reprogramming them (they are controlled by my profilux controller). So now what I have them doing is surging on for 15s each and alternating each powerhead. This causes much more random flow as they interfere with flow from the return line. Everything is growing much more naturally now.

Here is a highly detailed schematic of the setup..

vortechplacement.jpg

Because they are controlled and programmed by my Profilux controller it is quite easy to reprogram them and when I get bored I'll do that every now and again just for $#!ts and giggles. I can simulate waves, crests, surges, etc.
