Just bought my first anemone (flower)

Well, it's no carpet anemone or even a BTA, but I'm still pretty excited. I've seen rock flower nems at the LFS many times, usually in dull browns and beiges, and have thought about purchasing one but never quite felt ready.

Today I decided to take the plunge, and invest in a pet that needs to be fed regularly and will wander at will, possibly stinging tankmates along the way. My little flower nem is about 2.5" across, speckled pink with green tentacles. Subtle, definitely not flashy, but pretty as rock flower nems go.

I tried putting her on the sand (some of the things I read said they prefer to bury their foot in the sand), but she seemed unthrilled. I moved her onto a piece of LR and she immediately started to take hold. A few hours later she's moved about 1" over to the right -- I didn't realize I'd put her down right next to a *&$%! tulip anemone that probably started to sting her foot.

Is there anything specific I should know about this nem, besides the basics? I'm planning to feed her a small piece of food every few days -- scallop, shrimp, and fish will probably be the primary menu items -- and she's in a location where if she chooses, she only has to go a few inches to climb onto the back wall or move down into a cave, or she can stay put in direct light about 18" below the lights (2x400W 10K MH).

They don't move too much, they will eat like crazy. I feed mine every three days. It has now grown to approx 8'' across,in a stock 12 gallon jbj nano.It is the dull brown with white tentacles.Like to see a pic of yours.

When I get home this afternoon, first thing on my agenda after feeding the dog is to take a pic of the nem and post it :D Last night I introduced her to the tank while the lights were off, which is why you guys didn't get to see her.

I'm happy to say that she seems pleased with the spot I chose. This morning she was firmly attached to the rock, and looks very healthy. She's sticky, which I understand is a good thing. I'm going to try offering her some food this afternoon.

Yeah lets see those pics!!!
Just google the name or scientific name.
There are lots of collective sources out there.
A few minutes of reading will yield more info than you may really want. lol

I just spent about an hour trying to get a decent picture of my little nem, but I'm having horrible luck. She's at a wierd angle, near the back of the tank, and she's really quite small. Add the fact that I have a lousy point-and-shoot 4 year old camera and NO picture taking ability, and you get out of focus, off colour pictures. I swear, I took about 200. The ones that are remotely in focus are mostly unusable because I've got a pair of fish that have taken an interest in the nem, and they keep blocking the shot!

Despite the colour in the photo, in person she's a pale pink colour overall, and her disc is speckled pink with mint green. Her tentacles are beige, striped with white and muted army green. As I said, she's not flashy, but as rock flower nems go she's very pretty.

Sorry for the awful pictures guys, but I did promise. This is Princess the Talbot's damsel and Lucy, the occellaris clown, fighting over the nem. It worries me a bit that Lucy's so interested; she's bobbing over and around the nem, and I'm concerned she's going to try to adopt it as a host. She's much too big for it, and once it gets larger I'm afraid she would get eaten! *Gulp* Right now she has a patch of zoas she calls home (hence all her black spots), but looks ready to abandon them at any minute. She's a tank raised clown, and this is not a species that hosts clowns, but I'm wondering if she knows it's an anemone all the same, and prefers that to sleeping in a coral?

Took a pic of mine to show how big they can get. The rics in front are 2 to 2.5'' across and the green yumas are 5'' across. The anemone will soon be moved from the nano to a 20L when I. move the btas

Wow, that is a nice flower anemone. Your tank looks really healthy. I'm glad that Rbta found such a good aquarist.
