i just got done taking apart a 55 gal and a 75 gal. (one was missing the bottom, the other leaked about two gal a day)

so after cutting the glass panels free, i cut the nicer pieces down to make a 48" x 20" x 13"h .......

two days of scraping, wire wheeling, and acetone and i finnaly got the edges clean enough for putting back together!
spent a good amount of time taping and cleaning the edges, siliconed it up and relized i didnt tape the outside seams so now it looks hack....

if this thing leaks i am gonna go office space on it.... should have just kicked out the $400 bones for a GC.

anyways just felt like ranting.

Good luck! and who knows, could work just fine. Now you have experience for the next time to do it better.

So what are you saying? Did the silicone ooze out the front? I guess I really don't understand what the big problem is. Can you trim the silicone a little to made it look better?
Anyway like jmadison said, more experience next time.
Don't give up yet, just try harder next time.

ahh...youll be alright i hear you though after all that ...like everyoneelse said now your ready for the next one...GOODLUCK

yeah i was going to say i dont tape the outer edges of mine, i let it ooze and then i scrap it clean with a razor when cured..just make sure it oozes out far enough that it doesnt leave any little pin holes etc..

got the water in it....no leaks!

sure does put a smile on your face watching sometthing you made work.

Excellent.

Now
Build your stand, DIY your skimmer, Ca and Kalk reactors, design a pump and you could be the King of DIY!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Dont forget to let the silicone fully cure before adding water.Being in a rush to water test it,could result in premature failure of the seams.

tried to post pics but cant get them small enough...i'll try more later, gonna transfer the critters now....

see if this works...

here you go...

the "img" tag has to be in the square brackets for it to work...

so do i....
i like it shallow too, so it worked out with 3/8" glass. no bowing of the glass.
plus this is my first tank wider then 12" and i absolutey love the depth looking into it, so many more options for the rock layout!
