just curious--carpet anemonie

Is anyone concerned about the carpet anemonies eating your clownfish? I read that the carpets will do this. Mandarins and clowns are the ones mostly at risk as they hover on the carpet.

Just curious as I would be paranoid to waking up one day with my fish gone.:eek2:

I had a clown that hosted my anemone and a mandarin in my tank ro 2 yrs and never had a problem with them two.

Atlantic carpet anems are usually the "bad" ones that will be more likely to eat clowns. Then again, I have seen a 6" naso that nose dived into a haddoni carpet and became lunch...it can happen, but clowns are usually okay with it.

oooh! I guess I still would not want to risk it. I get too paranoid about the welfare of my fish and corals. Maybe obsessed is the word. LOL!

I've had to maroon clowns in a carpet anemone for about 4 years now. But, there's no guarantee that one won't eat a fish or two that get too friendly with it. Usually clowns, though, are fine.

I find it amazing that the clowns aren't bothered. Almost like it can tell the differences between the fish. Strange but fascinating at the same time.

I had a green carpet that ate hundreds of dollars worth of fish. He would eat anything that got close enough including my clowns. He got 5 orange skunk clowns during his stay. His final meal in my tank was my clown trigger.

Same reason I got rid of mine. He ate a small blonde naso. I was always worried that a fish would get spooked at night and dart right into the thing. They are very very sticky.

My Dad had a carpet anemone. It eat a bunch of his cardinals. He tried to save one once, when he noticed it happening, but the carpet decided to try him on for size as well and latched good onto my Dad. He had to slowly work his hand and fingers loose. The carpet had a death grip on, otherwise he probably would have tore the carpet. Those were the only fish though, and now it has a cinnamon clown hosting it w/o problems.

Hrm I was looking to get one, but that kinda freaks me out a bit...I have a dragonface pipefish and some small gobies...I would hate to see them become lunch...:(

Oh. That pipefish will probably not last long from what I have seen regarding this thread, since they are a bottom dwellers.
I would pass up on the carpet anemonie if it was me. JMO!

I have had a green carpet with 2 percs hosting it for about 6 mo. with no problem so far. Not to say they won't eat a fish but I think if you keep them feed they are pretty docile. Definitely wouldn't be keeping them with fragile fish though
