Many many factors. Two of the main ones imo would be flow and light. If you have ever dived on a reef, you will see that acros vary in depth over 20m or so. At different depths you have different currents and hugely different light spectrums. We are trying to replicate this in 24" of water. I also believe that the longer the coral has been cultured the better chances it has for survival in these conditions.
