just got a 6060 for my 50 gallon, and call me crazy, but I'm not very impressed with the flow.

In addition to the 6060, I originally just had an iwaki 40rlt (~750 gph) on a closed loop and a return of about 500 gph.

I thought the additional 1600 gph this 6060 provides would be immensely noticeable, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

Btw, the pump makes a low pitch buzzing sound. I imagine this is normal operating noise? You can't hear it unless you're close to the glass.

The noise is normal but will be reduced over the next couple weeks as the parts wear in. Most wear occurs in the first two weeks, after 3 months they should be at optimum.

The flow pattern should fill a 4ft by 2ft by 2ft area. The first three feet should have a pretty high flow. It is a diffuse flow. Narrow tanks can dramatically constrict and deflect the flow reducing it's effectiveness. That is why I generally don't recommend them for anything below 75gallons.

I just got two of the 6060 pumps and the impact was immediate and dynamic. My fish are now surfing in the water. Awesome pumps!!
