Mine has a huge eggsac with her.Anyone everraise these with any success

Hey Man I just came to post that mine is carrying a Pinkish Eggsack on her under belly as well! Anyone know the proper care for the eggs to hatch?

WOW incredible i've ALWAYS wanted one, they are the only invert known to have learned to use "tools"
Ryan

Since mine lost his "Tools" I was thinging about gettting him a couple of those little swords you get in some mixxed drinks. Then he can really defend himself.

I have 6 of these little guys (lots of tanks:) Anyway, I feed everynight at 7pm I spot feed on a probe my serpent stars. The boxer crabs figured this out very quickly and now come out to get a tiny piece of scallop off the probe. They are so cute!!! I also have one with a egg sack. They are really smart imo, I have never been a crab fan and in fact hate emeralds and hitchhiker crabs but these guys are the best!!

LMAO, Twisted you are twisted!! Don't worry about the tools, they come back. Next time you see him he will be armed again. Don't know how or why but it happened when mine molted. He was without them, then had tiny ones now they are hugh again.

I just bought one today, just got done acclimating him and in the tank away !!!

Do they reproduce by themselves???

I keep seein you all say they have egg-sacs???

I am very happy to finally found one locally !!! Was only $16!!!

Hello ... just stopping by to say I got another one; I figured he needed a friend ;) Also bought him at the same place DPV in campbell and Tyler the nice guy had many of them with various sizes from tiny to small ... the 1st is still alive and he is much less timid than before ... most frequently he hangs out in shaded areas or high flow such as my overflow ... he'll wrap his back legs around the overflow teeth and hold on :lol2: while his anemone's grab food :) Super happy with him ... best invert I have owned so far!

I got another damn good shot ... I just wish he was facing me better :/

No problem at all ... I've seen them hanging out together and the more you have the more often you see one ... so it's a great deal :)

I often house several together and I've never seen a problem with them and the females will often present with eggs. I even have one that lives in a 12 gallon Aquapod with Waldo, my mantis and they seem to be doing fine together. When we first moved Waldo in, I thought I had gotten all the inverts out, but didn't realize we had two pom-poms in the tank and only removed one. About 3 weeks later we saw her running about with Waldo right with her. Crazy! They're both still in there months later...but I do NOT recommend housing them together as in most cases the mantis would kill all inverts in the tank.

no way?! You're mantis lives with the Pom-Pom? That is an awesome friendship ... my buddies Puffer & Shrimp were like that! I hope you don't forget to feed the mantis because that pom-pom is going to look d-licious ;)

haha he looks awfully grumpy ;)

yea, he was pretty chapped..
i hadn't seen him in months and removed the rock in the tank to reaquascape. i had it all in a plastic container and looked down and there he was , making his way across the bottom of it. figuring i wouldn't see him again for months, i caught him up and snapped a few pics of him.. :)
hence the grumpy look.... oh yeah, i haven't seen him since... :)

Hmmm well is it in your 120 or your 29? I have 2 in my 29 and I see at least one all the time ... on a good day I'll see both and get a chance to compare size. One of mine is getting BIG ... but he's also a lot more timid so I haven't gotten a chance to snap a photo of him.

I can see all the dust and debris stuck to his hairy legs from the re-aquascape ;)

I also recently purchased a yellow headed bandit or boxing shrimp and I haven't seen him since I put him in. Hope he acclimates and comes out. :) I'll get a photo of him too ...
