Oh my gosh. For those who haven't snorkeling/scuba in reef it is such a treat. It's like swiming in your own reef tank except it's infinite big. I definately recommend it to anyone. We even came across a shark!:eek2:

Congrats, bobbo, isn't it great? What kind of shark was it? I went to Cancun once, but I have to say that all my fondest memories of dives were in Jamaica & Hawaii...

Did you know there's a SCUBA/snorkling forum here on RC? There is a LOT of crossover between hardcore divers and hardcore hobby reefers on RC. Sometimes people post really awesome dive photos there, you should check it out...

I was reading an article online about how the local biologists in Sri Lanka and Fiji expected the coral reefs to be devistated and they said besides isolated places where man-made objects have caused some damage the life is thriving there and there wasn't much damaged at all.

Its incredible how much force these coral reefs can withstand, now you know how they could stick around for another 60 million years if we take care of them.

Actually I could not notice any damage caused by the hurricane under the water but you can see the extensive damaged caused to the hotels and the palm trees. I don't know the type of shark it was but it did not look aggressive. It just lays on the ocean bed and does not appear to have a sharp triangular nose like the great white. (Definately not a hammer head either.) The size is about 4-5ft long and one of the snorkel instructor actually dived down to pet it a bit.

The reef I went to does not seem as colorful as many of the tank reefs we keep here but it is still amazing. Maybe I have to go to the great barriar reef or indo-pacific next time. I was a little sad that I did not see any clown fishes in their natural habitat.

bobbo,
got any pictures yet? Would love to see them- we're wanting to venture that way this summer- sounds wonderful.

Yeah, I was just over on the scuba forum today during my lunch break for the first time and after looking at the pics from Bora Bora and Marshall Island I was like, OMG - I need to learn how to scuba, I need to get a passport, I need to make reservations...

And before all of that, I need a hell of alot of money...D'OH!! :worried:
