Just got my 9010

Just hooked up my new 9010. How long is the break in period usually? I just replaced a Coralife 125 SS. Once it breaks in what is the ideal setting? How much water flow should be allowed? Right in the middle of 5-70%?

Are you using it in tank or in sump? In sump it needs to be open full 100% with the stand pipe installed. In general I would only close the water flow to reduce microbubbles or with heavy filter feeder populations. It takes 2 weeks to fully break in but skimming usually starts in a few days. Generally I start with the venturi screw open 3 turns and open it 1/4 turn a day after the first few days until I get the color/quality of skimmate I want.

[profanity] This thing started pulling light green gnk after 12 freakin hours. It's starting to pull out a lil darker skimmate. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I just finished a water change, and a feeding, and dosing. I left the skimmer off for about an hour. I can see it slowly starting to build up bubbles into the neck again. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SKIMMER!!! Right out of the box I set it and that's it. OH yes I forgot I am using it in sump.


I'm glad that you like your new skimmer but this is a family friendly forum - let's use language appropriate for that.
