Just got my brand new fish in a brand new tank and something is wrong.

Tank never cycled, the few creatures that came with live rock have all been thriving, I check Chem levels multiple times a day. Fish came out of transport bag that way. They will be the only fish in the tank and I added the medicine to the tank. It looks parasitic in nature. As it is inside and outside of his mouth. Cycling isn't a problem for me as all I can do until an injury from a car wreck heals is sit at home and watch the tank or tv for the next few months. Since I've had the tank, about 2 weeks now I've spent 20 hours a day looking at it sans fish until today so I want to make sure he can be healed or replaced by Dr. F&S before healthy one gets territorial. Within 5 minutes of being in the tank the sick one started being submissive to the healthy one shaking as they do when bonding.

Jake...just an FYI.....when I setup tank last year, I used a good amount of LR, live sand, and Dr. Tims Nitrifying Bacteria. My tank didn't see the start of a cycle for almost a week. I tested every day and wondered what was going on. Then out of no where I had a spike in ammonia, hence the start of the cycle.

When I first joined RC I read a lot of useful information, and still continue to do so. Having done both fresh and salt water in the past...I already had a foundation. If this is your first salt water tank, then I would suggest to spend a good amount of time reading the "Stickies" in the New to the Hobby section.

Hope DF&S comes through for you, and welcome to Reef Central!!

I think some of the information that have been suggested here are true and alot coming your way at one time. Lets address what is going on now to help the fish, first reaction to medicate I know was in the best interest of the fish and was a panic type reaction. That is human nature, however as said to throw meds into something with out first understanding what is going on can be more harmful than good.

Now yes research is important and reading threads and stickies are a must but for now lets figure out the fish.

Hard to tell from pic, a close up would be nice. Did the right thing to notify your supplier of the issue. I would venture to say not parasitic but could be, again hard to tell.

Not everyone can QT and many debates on it if you can knowing the source would help, how long have they had it, buying from someone you trust and have seen the fish first hand. Now, certainly QT is best if possible.

How is the fish doing now?

The tank will cycle. Trust me on that one, adding the fish will trigger a cycle. Then you are going to have a whole host of new problems with the fish.

Not being a negative nelly, but I have been there and done that. Rushed through with my first tank, added the fish too quick then had many a sleepless night watching my fish die off as the ammonia went up. Tried fixing it with ammonia remover, water changes, nitrate remover, you name it, I tried it.

You should see the tank now. It is a mess. green algae all over it, cyano that I can't seem to shake and it is over 6 months old. The best I could achieve is relative stability, it wasn't going away, but it wasn't getting worse either.

My new tank I waited patiently for it to cycle and very slowly moved my fish and coral over. My fish and coral look much happier
