Just got my first RO/DI

Hey guys. Just a quick question. I purchased a build it yourself RO/DI from BRS. When I made the order, I also picked up their dual TDS Meter. They installed the meter for me, configured much like I've seen other people here set them up. The "In" side of the TDS Meter is before the DI, and the "Out" is after the DI canister.

I guess my question is, do I need to keep it setup like that, or can I swap it so that the "In" is before the RO unit all together so I can see how bad the water is straight from the tap, or is it better to leave it setup like it is?

Thanks,

You can put it wherever you want. It tells you how much your filtration is doing. I don't know if there will be that big a difference though between the output after the membrane and before. I think most of what the meter reads is what the DI removes.

as stated you can put the meter anywhere you want but after the RO will tell you when the membrane will need changed and after the DI will tell you when the DI needs changed. the pressure gague will tell you when the prefilters need changed. the TDS of the tap water won't really change much and I would only test the tap water once then you will know what your rejection rate is.

You can measure whatever you want, but the number between the RO and DI stage is a LOT more important than the number on the feed water.

Why would you care at all about the TDS of the feed water unless you were having a problem?

This makes perfect sense! I wasn't thinking about that. I was thinking I would put the TDS meter before the RO, and then after so I could see the before and after. In all reality I care less about the before and after, as I do getting zero TDS, and the state of my filters as a whole.

Thanks for the input guys!
