Brian at Finsreef knew I wanted a new chiller and recommended I wait for this new brand he saw at Interzoo. I just got it. It is a series of fans and works off the Peltier Effect. It is low wattage, very small and very silent. AFAIK, the Iceprobe is the only other chiller utilizing the Peltier Effect - think of this as his REALLY big brother. Here are a few pix. I got the 400. Nicest part is that it comes with its own controller, it heats and cools. I'll post more pix when I have it up & running.

I got the one third to the left

Lots of pix on this page, helps to speak I-talian

where did you purchase this unit from.

Sorry I missed this. Been nuts lately.

Its still flippin cool. Everyone who sees it is amazed how small it is. I still have the power supply in my stand like an idiot and it still keeps my tank cool. I bought it from www.finsreef.com who I'd recommend highly.

I'm not sure how long the wires are, I am reworking things though and will LYK.

Any other specific questions just LMK!

I am sorry but goty confused are you running the 400 or 600 cause at one point you said you ordered the 600

just trying to get the right size for me and your system is comparable for me to study - thanks

and just so I can figure some other things out - help me with something please - i just got a killawatt meter and am running an applicance on it that it says draws 213 watts and then the amps are showing as 2.74 when watts of 213 divided by 120 (its showing this many volts) is 1.78 - what am I not getting please

Well I checked my bill and this will run me $9/month.

Robby - I can't say for certain how it will work in 90 degree heat, but remember on more than one occassion I've had to close my cabinet door and it exceeded 90 for sure! I saw no spike on my controller graph for temp, but I'd bet the chiller went up in wattage. In fact the one time I remember seeing the wattage over 250, it was the first day when I had the door closed most of the day.

It'll be interesting to see how this thing works in the winter. I will be replacing a 200W heater.

Because AC power does not calculate this way, there is a power factor in the mix, I don't know the in and out of it but that is what I read. If it were DC power, then you could use the above math, but of course you would need a multimeter not the kill-a-watt for measurement.

BTW, any update on how the chiller is doing?

LOL flyingphish, methinks YOU are the bad influence. I love the 400, it was enough to keep up with my 120 - I think the 300 would be a good choice. Love the heater/chiller working in combo on the same controller. Works perfect. I did not have a lot of light input.

The discharge is not as cool as a compressor chiller but the energy draw is much less. The size, silence and just flat-out coolness are awesome. Lack of moving parts is also a big plus.

I did go from a 120XL to a 160XL recently and its about 210G so this won't keep up unless I aid it with a fan or two. I might pick up the Prolifix fans, they looks pretty nice.

Hey guys,

I have a 54g tank with a 400 being fed by a MaxiJet1200. The unit is in my basement, with my main tank on the 1st floor. I have noticed a temp swing of about 2 - 2.5 degrees (f) from night to day. I'm worried this swing may be to much and stress out my SPS corals... Curious what sort of pump your using to feed, and if you have any ideas on how to reduce the temp swing?

Thanks,
L3

i just have a second but it must be something in your setup. i do have a ~1.5 degree range with my 400 on my 132G tank. that was with no fans. with a fan its zero (fan run off B2, chiller has its own controller). with no fans and NO chiller - my swing is over 5 degrees all things equal.

however - with chillers bigger is almost always better. a bigger chiller runs less and energy draw is about the same - but it chills quicker. i'm sure the 300 would probably be fine fish but the 400 would rock.

how about this. if you send me your Evo, i'll send you my Peltech 400. ;)

off for a fun date with the mrs .......

oh i use a mj900 or mj1200 however i have zero head pressure. i think the flow is the problem. i have pretty good flow going thru mine, the return water is noticably cooler, just by touching the vinyl hoses you can tell.

Thanks guys... Fliger, enjoy your date! Curious what you mean by using a fan...

I do have the 400 powered by a MJ1200. The water is pumped into the chiller from the flitered part of my sump, and then dumped back into the same section, which also houses my return pump and skimmer inlet/outlet...

Flyingphish - Nice choice in aircraft! Makes my ancient Baron look pretty sad... :) :(

i think flow somehow must be the issue as well, though since you have no head presure i am not sure why. it could be that having the sump in the basement has somehting to do with it since the temp down there might be different then upstairs.

though your temp swing isn't too bad, lots of folks here in so cal keep sps with +/- 5 degree swings.

i originally had an eheim 1260 on my Ocean 900 until i got the supplement to the manual which indicated it needed more flow then the other Peltechs, so i switched to a 1262 and my swing went down to almost nothing.

Hmmm... I may move the unit upstairs and put it under the cabinet of my tank. I have an old canister filter I could use as the pump, I think its rated at 340gph... Think that might help? The ambient temp in the basement is much lower than the temp upstairs where the tank is located...
