I hear that, your 50mm should allow for full tank shots just fine though. I am of course assuming your tank viewing room is not a hallway.
I think you made an EXCELLENT choice of gear. It almost brought a tear of happiness to my eye when I read your first post.

Actually, I was just giving you a hard time, that's already a hefty bundle you purchased, but using the 50mm you can do photo stitching pretty easily in PS. Might be able to double the amount of fish you actually have in the tank, lol.

I'm about to join you on this adventure, this is the camera I am leaning towards, the other is a "shhhh" Nikon D300...but honestly I've played with both and well, both are awesome.
For some reason the Canon is drawing me in?
I want to shoot close up everything, macro everything, well almost everything. I love close up macro photography. And shooting my reef tank, or whatever I see the art in, is my goal. I also have a new son on the way, my first, so I'll take shots of him as well. And who knows where else the hobby takes me?
So I'm hoping I can find this camera with lenses for a good deal.
I know its more camera than I know right now, but I've been into photography before, and this time I'm ready to take it up a level or two. I think this camera fits where I want to go.

If you plan to put a lot of emphesis on macros, check out the Canon mp-e 65mm. It isn't practical for a reef tank, but for other interesting subjects that is an AMAZING lens.

I have the 50mm f/1.4, and I love it. That's what's usually on my camera for my every day walk around stuff. Granted, I don't have the 24-70, so I can't directly compare; I'm paranoid that as soon as I buy one, Canon will announce the 24-70L with IS.

I wouldn't want a 24-70 with IS. It doesn't need it and the elements clanking around would be more annoying than helpful. If I am shooting beyond f/8, I am using a tripod anyway. The 70-200 definitely benefits from the IS though.

Duude! 50D and the 100mm macro lens? Sweeeeeet.
I have both those and love them dearly. The only thing I miss from my 50D is a full frame image sensor. And the 70-200L is on my list, right after the 24-70L.
Oh, and in case there are any Canon engineers prowling, I want TWO movable frames in the viewfinder display, one for determining where light metering will occur and one for where to zoom. I often zoom in and then forget to move the frame to where I want the exposure metered. I suppose I could also exposure lock when happy exposure is set and then move the "zoom frame".

What kind of setup questions do you have? You'll need to charge the battery, then insert it, attach the lens, set to camera to Av mode, manual focus and 2 second timer if you don't have a remote shutter release. Set your file saving mode to RAW. Leave auto white balance on. Attach the camera to the tripod, remove the lens cover. Make sure your pumps are off and glass is clean. Orient the camera straight on at the tank. Press the live view button, turn the focus ring on the lens and marvel at the display. Set your ISO and fstop. Verify the shutterspeed. Click the shutter.

The 50mm f/1.4 is much better, but its still no 70-200 f/2.8 IS! The 24-70, should you ever choose to get it, is up to par with the 70-200 in every category though...which is why I rarely use the 50mm f/1.4. I would just assume set the 24-70 to 50mm most of the time.

If you are getting two lenses, then it's hard to beat the Canon EF 100mm F2.8 USM lens for macros. Plus it's pretty good for portraits. For the other lens I would suggest something more general purpose, maybe around 50mm. The Canon 24-70mm F2.8L USM would be awesome if you have the budget.

Could you all throw out the rough prices for those, so I have an idea? I can look up the details when I go to purchase, but if you have a ballpark figure it would be nice.
Also I was told to look at some lenses with a low f stop...like a f/1.8 or f/1.4 as they are better with the natural night and no flash?

I love fast lenses in the f/1.4 range...but...they aren't easy to use. Don't plan on skimping out on a flash system. Not HAVING to use flash is nice...not having a flash to use is worse.
