Just ordered my first sps

Good luck, everyone says their easy, but i've never had a birds nest coral i could keep alive for one reason or another, yet i have 20 or so different acro's and monti's all growing and doing great, along with two clams and a couple lps.

The Maxima's doing well itself, but one side of its shell (in a low-flow area) has grown some turf looking algae on it. It's fine, but annoying.

And in regards to superglue gel or epoxy putty, if you can get away with just using the gel, I would go that route. If done properly, that epoxy/superglue sandwich works @#$%! good! If you ever want a change up, it's a real booger to break it loose from your rock.

ALSO though, remember to start that little beauty down on your sand for a while to get used to your lighting. I bleached out some Monti caps baaad because I didn't think to acclimate them to my increased lighting. In the wise words of Homer Simpson, "D'oh!" :headwally:

Oh yeah that's right in need to put it in the bottom for a while and move it up later. Thanks for reminding me.

What's your phosphate at?

My po4 is hovering around .02-.04 currently. I'm running some GFO and changing it weekly. Seems to exhaust pretty quickly.

Here's a fts from 2 sec ago. Ignore the fact that my toadstool looks like death. I think it's going to shed again. The big rock flower is actually my favorite animal in the tank so far. My anthias were hiding.

Here's the monti cap

My plan is to put it on the top of the structure on the left. How does that sound?

Just make sure to start it in the sand bed and slowly move it a few inches up every week or two. Also make sure you don't put it in an LED "hotspot." I bleached the hell out of the back of a stylo without even realizing it til the tissue was dead under reefbreeders.

Oh oh sure. I got some pics with my old phone but I got a new one so I'll take some more shots with it. Hang in a sec and I'll post em.

Your rockscaping is really great!
I have my Mars Aqua lights blasting at 100% but tank is only 4 months old so I will adjust should any corals begin to complain. So far the sps love the lights; I have a pair of large caps both have added about 1/4 inch rim in little over a month.

Thanks! I owe it all to the tbs rock. Really easy to rockscape and make some cool shapes.

I got it today. Just finished floating and now dripping it for 20min.

Ok she's in. Got her sitting on the bottom out of the direct beam. Wish me luck.

Move it up every week on the rock?

if it was me I would just place it on where you would like them to be and just play with your lights intensity to acclimate it

Good luck!! They're fairly hardy corals and should do fine once used to the light.

Question - what color(s) is your monti? It looks striped in the picture... is that just because of the lighting?

How long have you had your Mandarin?

Yeah that's just a glare from the led. It's just a standard red monti cap.

I think I'm going on month 2 with the mandarin. He was a rescue and I wasn't sure if I could sustain him, but he seems to be gaining weight.

Here is a closer pic of th BN. Does it look healthy? I think it does but I'm def not really experienced with sps.

It looks great to me! Nice size too. I would still leave it low and slowly raise it over time though.

Great purchase, Ben!

When u getting one?
