What your guys thoughts on closed loop? Have my overflow plus closed loop. Picked up the tank used and got a ton of stuff with it.

Need help if I should put the skimmer in sump or out of sump, have a mag 9.5 pump for the skimmer by itself and I'm not sure what I should plumb the uv sterilizer into? Loop or just returns? Or maybe run that 9.5 to skimmer and uv?

I would move the power strips as well. The closed loop is a great idea and I would tee the uv off of the return with a gate valve so you could use it if needed.

Trust me, if you aren't running the power strips into a GFCI outlet find a new home for them. Doesn't cost very much to switch an outlet out to one if you don't have one already in place but it will save you A LOT of money. Had an issue with the return pump and the tubing slipping off when my tank was initially set up. The pump was spraying water everywhere... for seconds when the GFCI saved not only my tank but probably my whole house! Best 10 minutes of my life spent in addition to the like $15 it cost me to do it.

Granted, thanks to the experience I have fashioned a lid type thing for the return section of the sump so it would not spray out of the sump should it ever manage to pull it off again (he mess caused me to make it that nothing will get that apart now but just in case).

Sorry, not what you had asked but I thought I would share my experience with that first.

When you say running to both, do you mean parallel (with a Y after the pump intake) or in a series? I had considered trying to run them in a series to cut down on a pump in the sump but ended up running them separate with the UV output being placed about where the skimmer input would be in order to help get rid of the junk I just killed with the UV so keep that in mind in you kind the flow rate will be sufficient. I have my skimmer in the sump so it is taking up prime space but looking back I don't know that I would change it. The only thing I would make sure to carefully look at is the flow rate you need for both and make sure you are not causing one to underperform due to the rate it is being delivered water.

Make sure you post pictures once you have it figured out and tank moving along! I want to see how you scape it because I don't know how far I would get with working around the stuff coming in/out of the center of the DT!

Thanks guys. The guy I bought it from had the power strips set up like that. I will definitely change the location tho. And is the uv really worth it? Thinking about just selling it, I've never ran one before. Just want to get away with not adding anymore pumps for it because I already have 3 pumps lol!! Just picked up some kessil 160's. Thinking about throwing a t5 fixture in with it

Thanks for the reply guys. Kind of intimidating setting this up, I've never set up something like this. It will be fun tho

Yeah I'm going crazy trying to think how to scape it too. Never had to hide stuff in the middle of the tank! Should be interesting

What are you doing with the tank? Fowlr? Reef? I looked into the uv thing and do to the extra heat from the light and maybe an extra pump it may make it necessary to have a chiller. That made my decision.
Plenty of people do just fine without them.

Central overflow is no problem. Just stack rock against it as a pyramid.

Closed loops have largely been replaced by in-tank fans. You can seal them off with a plumbing fitting, whether threaded or smooth.

Those pumps look pretty aggressive if I'm understanding the size correctly. I'd gather this tank may have been a reef with a lot of flow. They may not be very silent. Most exterior pumps do deliver a bit of noise. And they are taking up room you could use for a sump.

Yeah I was thinking I could make a few pillars to hide the closed loop and I'm not worried about trying to hide the overflow box. Don't want a rock wall haha., and I just need to finish the plumbing and run everything to test it then go from there. I was thinking of ordering a sump that's all set up. Seen some pics of others and they look nice. But who knows what I'll do lol
